New to this...

Hey All, new to this!
Join the forum to learn more about these cars and searching to see if this is worth it or not. 05's are idea but won't be using this as DD, just for autocross fun or light track.

Notice on Minimania that some of their kits are US spec only.

Would like your opinion on this:

Looking at an 03 MCS that came from Germany with 65k on it.
Has nav, new shocks, no sunroof (lighter) for $13.5k obo (owner states will work on clutch which is still good)

Seems like a nice car but should I be weary this came from Germany?

Not that big an issue, if they dealt with all the import stuff

when they brought it in. The 03s have a slightly less agressive gearing in the tranny. The differences between the german and US versions are mostly cosmetic (kph vs mph on the speedo, no lights in the wheel arches a few other things).

A car of that age, and if you're going to be using it for performance, will probably need the front control arm bushings done (as will any of that vintage, it's one of the poorer parts on the cars) and if you spend time reading you'll see other areas to look out for.

I've got an 02 MCS with over 100k miles on it. Overall, I'm very happy.

Thanks Matt!
Nice Mustang, I almost bought a 64 1/2 fully restored Mustang in early 90s but straight 6 stopped me...needed power as I was a punk kid. $3k for that car, dang it!!!

At that price

it would have been a steal! Oh well, don't miss out on another good car deal. Minis are a blast.

Beware, this could be a gray import car. If the car was not made on or before August 1984, it can not be legally imported into the country and may pose a problem to register. Although the MINI has been imprted and sold into the US since March 2002, this car is Euro spec (Read: Not intended for US sale) and may lack DOT certification to be legally used in the country.

On the other hand, the car could be a US spec MINI sold and delivered in Germany under US military sales, in which case, the car is 100% DOT legal.

Be sure to find out the history of the car before committing.
