Front left speaker dead?

Hi
I have an 04 MCS ( 2nd owner )

Last owner upgrades head unit to Pioneer ( 25 watts ) and Polk speakers...no extra amp - yet. I've had the car about 5 months and love it.

Suddenly the front left speaker makes sporadically loud burst of static - at mostly lower frequencies. It sounds like it might be a loose connection somewhere.

Any suggestions where to start? Pull the head unit, or perhaps remove the door speaker ? I don't want to reinvent the wheel if this is a typical symptom of a blown speaker...and pulling apart the dash always makes me nervous. There are always extra parts left over...

Thanks for any suggestions

id pull the headunit and check the adapter, mine did that and it was driving me nuts, i took the door speaker out several times thinking that was it, and nope, the adapter was connecting right so the speaker wire was shaking lose every once in a while. reconnected the adapter and fixed the problem

any update with your findings? did you figure out what was wrong with the speaker? I'm have the same issues myself. Is there a DIY to take apart the door or is it as simple as removing the 4 hex screws?

I'm also running aftermarket headunit.

It turns out the head unit was bad. I bought a new and better one on Craigslist.

The door comes off with a little prying after the 4 screws are removed. However getting them lined up to screw back in is another story. As long as you have the door panels off, a little sound deadening material helps a lot.

Good luck!

There is better DIY instructions on this site. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

Fronts are 5.25. You might want to test some other speaker in its place first. It could be a problem with a crossover unit in the door or the head unit. Some additional info is at the link below: Good luck!
