With 6500 mi on my MCS, I've noticed that my shifter seems notchy - there is really no issue with drivability - I can hit the gears quickly. However, it literally clicks into gear and is not perfectly smooth entering the next gear (no grind or sounds though, just a clicking feeling). Anyone else notice this - is this just how they are?

thanks!
Erik

In my experience, yes, this is just how they are. I have driven other MCSs that feel less notchy than mine does, but I actually like the "clicking into gear" feeling of the Getrag. It's much more desirable to me than, say, my former MC's squishing into gear feeling.

A Whalen Shift Machine should help.

I have disliked the notchy feeling from the get-go. Unfortunately, the only way to
deal with it is to replace the stock shifter. I've just ordered a B&M short shifter after
reading numerous rave reviews about it on this site.......smooth and precise. A great thing about after-market products is that you don't have to just accept the performance aspects of your Mini that bother you!

In the beginning, mine was also very notchy. However, the notchiness has decreased a lot since then. Feels quite normal now. So, give it time before doing anything.
