The email notification on MINI2 is a plus, it makes it easier to track the threads you have posted in.
Actually, with MCO, you can have every post emailed to you, depending on which forums you subscribe to. I do that, and I couldn't imagine keeping up any other way. Sure, it makes for 200-300 messages a day in my inbox, but I can extremely quickly move through messages that I'm not interested in by sorting on the subject. If I want to reply, as in this case, there is a link in the email to click on, which brings me to the site.

As for which site is better, I think they are all good in their own way. And if we didn't have MINI2, what would we have done when MCO went down the other day? Why, we might have actually had a productive day. And what a shame that would have been!

See ya,
JS

To me I enjoy both - of course I love MINI2 - back when it started I worked with Paul and we started that site...i have since moved onto other things but paul still does a great job...I've also gotten to know some folks here very well.

To me both forums are laid out identical...the only difference being that MINI2 uses the vB software which has many more features and is what Mark is going towards...items such as subscribe to individual threads, email when you get a private message, a private message list that is actually sorted, email when someone responds to a thread you did, it also has a better WYSIWYG editor for posting pictures and doing other html in posts, additionally there is a ton of stuff that users don't see...the admin side of vBulletin is killer, the code is templated out better for easy integration into the site...the list just goes on and on...and soon mark will have these GREAT features on this site.

The other killer part of vBulletin is so many sites use it that they have developed a network of users that develop free addon stuff for the board...for example display a flag next to your name for hte country you live in, ability to reply to threads via replying to an email, thread ratings, post point ratings, and this list also goes on.

Now all the features do make it a bit more cluttered but as Mark figures out what features people here really use he will adjust the vBulleting settings to turn those on or off so that the only stuff displayed is the stuff that most people make use of thus keeping it as clean as possible.

As far as people location I don't really see the point in this being more us based...when i want local stuff I go over to the metroplexmini site that is just packed with great folks and find out all the latest local stuff, local events and happenings etc.

I enjoy both forums, and both forums have a Pulse or LiveWire tool to see the top posts which I keep both open at all times and monitor the boards that way....now it would be sweet if the pulse was customizable to each user so you could say I only want Performance and MINI Talk threads to show up in it etc...that I find would be very useful.

I've been lurking both sites for some time and I've just ordered my IB/W MCS. A few reasons I wanted to get a MINI was the global community which has formed around the MINI (partly embodied in both MCO and MINI2), they styling and engineering of the MINI, and that I'd like a hobby other than taking care of the house and the yard.

Both sites provided an invaluable resource on my research prior to ordering my MCS. One better than the other?

I'm on both most every day, but I post more often here. I don't know if that means anything.

Similar thread was posted on mini2. I'll say the same thing; I'm biased because I have more experience with mini2.

I like both sites. Either website may cover something interesting the other doesn't, so I get both.

Red03, we all know the Focus is better...

I am more familiar, and therefore like the people on MCO more. Sometimes, though, MINI2 is great when you need a nuts and bolts answer quickly. There's a lot less goofing around with Pop Tarts or politics there.

yes i posted a similar thread, because it wasnt fair for us to say "mini2 vs mco" here, and not give those fellow a chance over there to respond. we have done crossposting before wtih bmw boards that looked down on the mini and so forth. so this is nothing new, just equal opportunity to voice your opinions as i see it. also with 2 posts it gives the people who want to voice their favoritism, to go thier particualr fav site and do it, and dont have to get flamed for it. i thought it was the best way

I am a member and Moderator on both sites, but spend most of my time here at MCO. I think it's because of the camaraderie...we have such great people here! MINI2 is a great site, but the time-difference thing makes me feel kind of out-of-it here on the West Coast.

Cheers!

Thanks, Clo! I didn't know MINI2 had an Off-Topic. I'll have to go do some rabble rousing over there some afternoon!
