2006 S rear brake pads...
Hello, My wife and I have posted a couple of questions regarding our Classic Mini in the past. We just bought an 06 S and I had the tires rotated yesterday and was informed that the rear pads would be due soon. I was wondering if there are any special tools that are required to do the job. I am mechanical and do a lot of my own work on the cars we have and feel confident with doing the job as long as I don't have to buy a special (expensive) tool.
Thank you,
Diego

Nope just a typical brake job. I suggest a tool to spin the rear caliper piston in to make life easy. A little PB Blaster on the screw that hold the rotor on will keep you from striping it out. A 2x4 and hammer to knock the rotor off.
I ordered the one from Harbor Freight as I had a punch of individual cubes from other cars.
I used a little anti seize on the screw and hub so next time the rotor and screw can be removed a little easier.
There is a FAQ on the front and rear brakes in the mod section.

Here's the link for rear pad changing, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=43438
This is the tool you NEED to make life easier, http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40732
Also make sure the inside pads clips are clipped to the piston on the sides and top.

yep - that nails it....
the HF tool is not a 'must have' but you DO need to turn the piston as it is pushed in so the tool makes that easier....or, open the bleeder valve and don't fight the system, but collect a wee bit of fluid. You still need to turn and push but some like to do that with needlenose rather than buy a tool. Watch HF....the kit is on 'special' every 3 weeks for $20 and it has the adapters for just about everything that uses this (not uncommon) e-brake system

Hey thanks a lot gentlemen! A brand new HF just opened in town so I will go check that out today. The tire shop wanted to charge me $240 for the rears only and that was without turning the rotors. They did mic them and they're in spec and I have no pulsation when braking so I think that I will forgo the machine shop.
