R50/53 Bug catcher?
My MCS and I were just out for a short run and by the rime we returned the windshield was covered with flying road-kill! It seems every time we go somewhere we come back covered in bloody and green and yellow bug splats. I'm wondering if the upright angle of the windshield coupled with the shallow bonnet contibute to the problem. Any thoughts out there? Are others having the same experiences? Any solutions? :???:
Perhaps the MINI is just so good looking that the bugs want to get a closer look!
I think that it is a function of the nearly vertical windshield that makes the impacts all the more gooey since the bugs dont get a chance to bounce off without exploding their guts out! My Land Rover Defender has a perfectly flat basically vertical windshield and it really gets splattered even worse!
TheMINI is so maneuverable that I have actually been able to switch lanes on the highway to avoid large butterflies! So maybe the only solution is to drive around the insects!

Bugs you want to see Bugs!!!
Recent trip to Oregon, Klamath Falls the Midges were out and they were thick!

Had to have the windshield cleaned every fuel load (about every 1.5 hours)
Hate to ride a motorcycle up around there.

Spent some time in WA also, flew into and out of Spokane, and traveled up to Republic
Here is a shot taken on Hwy 20 just east of Republic. I was jones'n pretty bad for the MCS right about then.

After a few days I decided that maybe having the S up in those hills wouldn't be a great idea. They have a lot of deer jumping out onto the road, we almost took out 2 in one night.

Bugs are a PIA, but scraping a deer off your windshield is a real hassle.

And when you get finished washing the bugs off the outside, don't forget to pop the bonnet and clean the bugs out of your radiator. I just use a tooth pick and carefully pick em out one at a time.
It may sound strange, but after awhile if you let the bugs in the radiator clog up it can just cause more problems later on.
Plus, I just HATE BUGS in the radiator.

I fully concur with the RainX solution. I use it on my boot window and rear view mirrors too. I suppose there's no way to avoid the bugs; they've got a right to be there too. Just wish they'd get out of the way.
<<<but maybe where i live there are no bugs, just snooty upper class people>>>
Those are even harder to scrape off than deer.
I think I substantially lowered continental insect populations on my road trip--it was scary, the number of bugs, and in the plains they're so huge that you can stand six feet back and still see their little faces... Blecch!!
THREAD JACK ALERT:
These insect populations seem to be haunting me still--despite 2 claybarrings, 2 washings and simple green, I can still see the bug splats--like they hazed the paint. Any suggestions? I posted in the deatiling forum, but I'm getting no love... PM me to keep the thread on topic, if you've any thoughts on how to fix my paint.
And now back to our regularly scheduled thread...
