Fog lights...

Hi:
Probably this topic has been covered over and over again, but just as a mind refresher :
I got an '05 MCS which didn't come factory with the fog light option(the ones in the bumper below the t. signals, not the ones in the grille held with brackets, which I believe are driving lights). My question here is:
Is there a retrofit kit from Mini that they can install? I've seen the aftermarket piaa kits, but just want to keep it factory.

Now another thing:
I've read in several places, ( and also according to my owners manual), that there is a rear fog light option, and that some cars made late '05 even came with the wiring to the light already installed. My question here is:
Is there a kit from Mini for that too? Also how can I tell if mine was already fitted with the wiring, mine is a 12/04 MY, so don't know what's the cutting month for being "early" or "late".

Any help greatly appreciated. I'm new to the forums and to my Mini.

Yes, there are retrofit kits for both front and rear fogs. Look here for all the details: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t_Retrofit.pdf

The front fog retrofit is fairly involved and may get expensive if you have the dealer do the work. Your 12/04 build ('05 MY) is probably prewired for the rear fog. You can verify by checking for a harness and connector taped up behind the bumper where the fog lamp would go.

Dealer installation expensive

Back in June I took my '03 MCS to the dealer for a couple of warranty items that needed to be fixed. While they had the car I asked for estimates for fog lights, driving lights, and a roof rack.

Fog lights: approximately $750

Driving lights: appx. $600

Roof rack: appx. $650

Prices include parts, labor, & taxes.

Needless to say, I'll be doing most of these items myself.

One thing I had the dealer do to my MINI that wasn't covered by my warranty was to turn on the daytime driving lights. That cost $99! I'm currently looking for the computer interface equipment and software to do this myself. Charging 99 bucks for a five minute computer hook-up is outrageous.

Sorry for the rant.

A few of us have done the front fog retrofit on our own. Here are a couple of threads that describe the process:
