Spark plugs

Just a quick question:

I have a 15% pulley, intake, borla exhaust. I had purchased a set of Iridium IX plugs, would like to know the gap I should go with. From what I've read they come with a .45 gap out of the box.

Good plugs to use? I tried reading through a ton or spark plug posts. Didn't really get a good answer.

I will also have the same basic setup. Alta intake, 15% pulley, IE catback exhaust.. Going to colder plugs is a good idea right? If so what ones?

I am now using NGK BKR7EQUP Laser Platinum for JCW MCS after my NGK Iridums 7E IX showed wear of the tip only after 20K Kms. The premature wear could have been due to detonation/pinging brought by my first aftermarket ECU flash which has now been replaced by RMW tune.
Go to NGKwholesale.com for good deals.

Gap on Iridium plugs - OK to change?

After not running my Mini for a while (I was a really bad girl and didn't start it up for a LONG time), I wanted to spray some lubricant (I used SeaFoam Deep Creep) into the cylinders before I started things up. Since the plugs had to be pulled out anyway to do this, and since I had a Webb 15% pulley, JCW CAI and exhaust installed several years ago (and kept the OEM plugs), I decided to go with the Autolite Iridium plugs. For some reason, I thought that the gap should be .032. So, I (very carefully!!) re-gapped them to .032. Now, I see that I should't have done so. I turned the engine, and it sounds fine. My question is - am I doing any harm by using Iridiums with the smaller gap? Or should I pitch them and buy a new set and install those? BYW, the video that White Roof Radio posted on YouTube (just yesterday!) on how to do a spark plug change gave me the courage to try this for the first time - I was really proud of myself! Melanie

Gerldoc, could you post that youtube link.

I have been thinking about the same, I need some new plugs and have a pully CAI, Cat back, so 1 step colder sounds good, anyone out there want to tell me what plugs work so i can just go pick some up and not have to worry that i am doing something that could hurt the MINI.

Thanks!

+1 on the NGK BKR7s, but I have platinum. Iridium would simply be a longer-lasting plug. Stock is supposed to be BKR6, but both of mine came with BRK5s. A friend of mine said they would have installed these from the factory based on the climate to which the MINI was shipped.

BKR7s are the recommended upgrade for a pulley, CAI, and tune. They are pregapped and should not be changed unless a shop tuner advises you otherwise.

One should always check the gap on new plugs. They can & do sometimes get banged around in shipping changing the gap.

I like the specs on the NGK plugs. I have a stock '06 Cooper. Should I get the Iridium or Platinum. The cost difference is not that big a deal, I just want to know what would be best for my car. Thanks.
