Outside Temp Gauge

So, yesterday I clipped a raised sewer drain with my front fender (the plastic part) and the fender basically came off of my car. I re-attached all the wires for the lights and put the fender back on (i need to get a replacement bolt). The only problem is that now my outside temp gauge is reading -40. Does anyone know what this means or how I can get it to work again?

The temperature sensor is clipped to the inside of the bumper cover on the driver's side. Your sensor may be hanging in the wrong spot or disconnected. I believe it reads -40 when it is disconnected.
