R50/53 Just ordered a MINI... some info for the disabled
Hello,
My name is Chris and I just ordered a MINI Cooper(silver/silver, fully loaded). I wanted to write about my expierence so far.
After debating for 2 days my wife and I finally went down to the MINI dealership in Virginia Beach to look at the MINIs. My primary concern was can I fit my wheelchair into the car. The answer is YES.... after taking the back wheels off and folding half of the back seat down it fits and only sacrifices one seating postion in the rear.
Since I need hand controls to drive I opted for the CVT Automatic(once I get it ill post on drivability). After speaking with the manager they found out BMW does NOT have mobility program to reimburse you for the controls, so add 900+ dollars to what your spending. Although they did agree that once it comes in they would drive it to the 3rd party conversion shop, and drive it back to the dealership once it was finished. So, that aleviates a major hassle(very nice of them I must say).
They did offer the 1700.00 dealer options, but they didn't push them on you, I don't recall if they said it was mandatory or not. I did choose it however the two primary thing I chose were the XM reciever, and the INTERtrack locator system(think LOjack).
I ordered mine at the end of August and should be into production soon..... for November delivery. I was pleased to pay MSRP, not over  Although the options technically make it over MSRP *shrug*
I'll post some more info once I have it.

Chris,
Congratulations on placing your order, and welcome aboard. I wouldn't have guessed that the cooper would so easily fit a wheelchair. The spaciousness of the interior continues to surprise me.
Thanks for your useful information and details on making modifications.
Take care,
Steve
