Sheesh, this thread is like asking the proverbial geezer weather question "Is it hot enough for ya?" For the most part (other than Dominicminicoopers' post 1/2 way down page 2), all that has been posted has been opinion along the lines of "It's cold enough/not cold enough for me!".

Every car has a published set of specifications for vent temperatures as a function of outside air temperature and ambient humidity. This is how mechanics tell if your AC is working properly or not. The key is for you to ask your dealer to SHOW YOU this chart for the MINI and to prove to you that your vent temperatures are correct for the conditions. They either are or are not. No guessing.

I went through this just last week with another car of mine. The AC had developed a slow leak. It was blowing warmer than it was supposed to. The AC function specs for the ambient outside temp (95 degrees) and humidity (80%) said that the vent temp was supposed to be 60 degrees. They adjusted the system so that it reached that temp and we were golden.

There's no reason why your MINI dealer can't do the same. All you have to do is to get involved enough to demand to see the specs since BMW/MINI doesn't make specs for anything this specific available to the customer.

Had my dealer inspect the car today. He gave me a printout "Snapshot Summary" which indicated all specs were within correct range.

Here's the details:

AMBIENT DATA:
Ambient Humidity: 59%
Ambient Temperature: 80F

VEHICLE DATA:
Red Vent Temperature: 48F
Blue Vent Temperature: 50F
High Side Maximum: 316psi
Low Side Minimum: 24psi
Charged Weight: 0.00lbs
Recovered Weight: 0.00lbs

I did not use the AC on the drive to the dealer, which is about 30 freeway miles, but after they tested it, it did seem to be a bit colder. I don't know if it has something to do with a little freeway driving and cooler outside temperatures... ?

I told the service guy that it seems like it should be colder (around 40F) and that I couldn't get it below 58F when the outside temp was 95F. He suggested to keep an eye on it and see if it is an intermittent problem, but that it was as within spec.

Oh well, what can I do? Maybe it will improve with time.

Actually MiniMac has some great data right below my posting.

I know they can have specs for this and for that. But I just took my wife's neon for a spin yesterday. The inside cabin temperature begins to drop noticably in less than 45 seconds. I think it really comes down to how much cold air is being moved outside the vents, rather than the exact temperature of the air being blown. For the same amount of time, placing my MINI beside my Neon and running the A/C units, the Neons chills interior temps, including those for the back seat passengers, in virtually no time. But the MINI doesn't seem to have the ability to move enough volume of cold air to cool the interior well enough for those in hot climates.
