And, yeah, it's MUCH louder and better than the sound clips can convey..
Oddly, it sounds MUCH louder if you're a little ways away from the car - standing next to the car, the body itself blocks a lot of the sound. If you're 20 feet away, you'll jump. Or faint.

Blimey,

How do you keep dirt, water, etc., out of the horns?

Why would I want to?

Water I'm not too worried about... horns like this are built to face forward, exposed.... dirt / large grained sand / etc. I'm a little more worried about... I MIGHT turn them around to face rearward like Aarons... or I MIGHT make fabric covers for them... thinking about that... or I just make take them off occasionally and dump the sand out...

Sounds Great

At work the guys were checking out my Mini and a comment was made about the horn not sounding right. They expected a "beep beep" and figured even if I was the only other car on the road and honked, no one would know it came from a Mini.

How about a set of Ferrari air horns ? I had a set in my Montanna Green 93' GTi 16v. about 120 db at 10 feet and sounded very Euro.

The Hella two-tones sound like that. Make sure you get the kind with the shorter trumpets...

You might pull them off and rotate them around to see if you get water out of them. Several MINI owners around here had a similar problem and found that water had managed to get into the horn - probably commuting during one of our torrential rain storms
