R50/53 Park Distance Control - Give Opinions Please
Thank you all - I called my dealer and added the PDC to my order.
I'm getting the Aero Kit, which with install and sales tax will run me up near $3000. I will gladly pay $350 so I do not back into something and scratch up that back fender.

I went with the poor man's PDC option,
1. open back hatch before backing up
2. stick right arm out the back of the hatch
3. keep backing up until you hand touches something
4. stop
5. close hatch and lock up the car.
For additional style points:
feel free to make random beeping sounds
-Vote Quimby!!

Don't try this with your own car... You'll find the hatch strikes something before you hand. Unless you are elastic man/woman

In my opinion, you shouldn't need a little sensor to tell you when you are about to hit something when you are driving the SMALLEST car on the road. Maybe if you have agreat big truck...but a MINI???
I'm so happy I'm getting it. When I told my sister I thought she was going to have a fit! Her X5 has it and she thought it was something very exclusive! She started naming cars that didn't have it. I was quite proud of my highly engineered MINI!
PDC - $350.00
The look on your sisters face when she found out your $22,000 MCS has it. --
Priceless!

I’m with you BJ!
When you consider the options that are available on the MINI; Direction Stability Control (DSC), Xenon headlights, Park Distance Control (PDC), DVD-based GPS Navigation, leather upholstery with heated seats and mirrors, leather multi function steering wheel, rain sensing wipers and auto dim mirror. These are options that are not available on a lot of automobiles on the market, and when they are offered the asking price for admission is considerably higher than a MINI. Mercedes Benz is still only offering the “old” CD-based Nav on their 2004 cars, they haven’t even moved up to the superior DVD-based system as of yet. The MC offers a lot of car for the money, even when spec’ed to the max!

Funny thing, I drive a big truck and have an intuitive radar for how close things are, but with the Mini I'm not as good. I did learn to drive in a Bronco.
I do agree that saving the pint size dogs of the world is good, however in addition, I have hit a few small things like stumps with the Bronco that were absolutely out of sight, that were I to have had a device similar to the one I'm getting on my MC I'd have not had a bent fender for so long.

Speaking of paralell parking, I was upset at the lousy shots of the paralel parking job in "The Itallian Job" movie. There is supposedly a world record holder that can do that with 1" on each side. They ought to have hired him and got a wide angle or overhead shot of it.
Does anyone have a close up psicture of what the bumper looks like with PDC. Have all you that thumb your nose at PDC never read the stories of small children being run over. I know the Mini is small, but are there absolutley no blind spots. Rhetorical, I know you can't see everything.
