I'm retired and trying to keep the price down. Unless I change my mind between now and 10:00 AM Friday, this is it. Standard Mini, cruise control, (this also locates radio buttons on steering wheel), fog lights, additional bumper chrome the salesman assured me looks good and floor mats. British racing green with a white top and silver eight spoke 15" wheels. About $17,500 with a $250 dollar discount which is really just knocking of the $249 dollar "preparation charge". Still, I'm as fired up as a 60 year old can get.

Whadda you think?

Think it sounds great. I've been driving by a ringer for this car for most of the summer and it always poses a dangerous distraction to me. The only suggestion I might make is to consider the Xenon lights @ $500. There should be an insurance discount for cars with xenons. It's mostly a personal, safety preference on my part since my night vision is pretty horrible.

I think you'll be positively thrilled with it. A friend of mine just took a Cooper with the CVT and I get two calls from her a day to hear about it. You might want to wait a little bit and make sure they put you into a 2004. Apparently the price increase is neglible (under $25 I think).

Good luck!

Tom

I was told the price increase for 2004 would be around $400-500. The dealer told me this so it might be BS. My order is for a 2003. I checked out the deferences and don't think it manners to me. I plan on keeping the car forever. Mostly though, for the first time in many years, the car bug has bitten me and I want my Mini NOW!

Here's the latest about the price increase. It's not what you are expecting!!!

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey - August 1, 2003 ... MINI USA is pleased to announce pricing and specification changes for the 2004 model year. Even with strong and consistent demand for both MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S, both models will receive only a modest price increase of $24. This will make the MINI Cooper MSRP $16,999 and the MINI Cooper S MSRP $19,999, inclusive of $550 Destination and Handling.

Several options and package prices have also been adjusted for 2004. Sport and Premium packages are up only $50 from 2003 as is the optional leather interior and CVT transmission.

Well that explains it. Only a 24 buck increase on the base model. But the option packages prices are being raised lots more. Sly how they can do that....
