2004 Glovebox Latch?

I've done a search on NAM but didn't find anything like this:

I just recently noticed a bit of oddness about my glovebox latch - I thought something was stuck to it, and then realized that the 'silver' coating is peeling off! From the bottom edge of the latch up. I can smooth it back down so it looks OK, but it's bothering the dickens out of me.

Any place I can find a replacement latch outside of the stealership? When I bought the (used) car in January from the stealer, they gave me a six months' warranty - I wonder if this is covered? Thoughts?

I don't believe that the latch is available separately, at least as a new part. My latch (inner part, not the handle) broke recently and I had to epoxy it back together myself as I didn't want to pay the dealer $250 for a whole new glovebox.

$182 for a new glove box at realoem.com/pelicanparts.com interestingly you can upgrade to a locking glove box for the same price.

maybe check online for salvage yards?

whitey, I checked both of those web sites and couldn't find anything - can you provide a direct link?

it's all based on your VIN at realoem and they don't allow hot linking. so quick tutorial on how to use the 2 sites in conjunction with one another.....

go to realoem.com and click enter. then type in the last 7 of your VIN then submit. it will now show your MINI info (it will be all highlighted- year, model production date, etc.) then click BROWSE PARTS. then that takes you to the parts page. on that page you can browse through categories of oem MINI parts. BUT,i just used the search function up on their right hand side of the page. click search and type in glove box. THEN, you look at the diagrams. THEN when you see the part you want look underneath the diagrams and you wil see the part number that corresponds. use your mouse to copy the part #...

NOW go to pelicanparts.com and click bmw and paste the part number in the search box at the top left. it will give you the price.

i know, sounds like a real complicated mess. BUT, actually very easy once you get the hang of it. and these 2 sites are a GREAT resource for OEM parts. pelican has great service and will at times send you a coupon code etc. you can spend HOURS at realoem.com just looking at stuff you "need" .

Thanks, whitey, I will check it out this evening. I think I came close to your 'answer' yesterday but then gave up.

I'm sure I'll find things I didn't realize I needed - it is SO MUCH FUN to find different odd bits for one's Mini - and they're so grateful for it! I've never had such a grateful auto! Harmini thanks me very time I start her up!

yes, pretty much ANY oem MINI part you want, you can get. from an interior door reflector to a boot wing and engine parts. unless it's a discontinued part of course. realoem is mainly just a parts number with exploded diagrams source. then pelican is the actual supplier. that's why you need to use the 2 sites together.

the reason why you need to type in YOUR VIN is because production parts and their numbers change. i have a 2003 and i believe the glove box number changed in april of 2004. when you type in the your VIN at realoem it will show you everything down to the production month on your particular MINI- which is good and cool info. have fun!
