Brake Noise

About one month ago, or so, I replaced the rear breaks with new discs from BMW and mintex red box pads. For the first few hundred miles the clips were not on correctly. After I reinstalled them they were great for a while- no noise at all. Now when the car stops at slow speeds under 5 mph to a stop there is a slight squeal. If it is coming to a stop from high speeds it remains silent. Could the rain have done something? Should I replace the discs and pads again?

I bought my Mini in November of last year and I hear some brake sounds as well. I don't know if it is normal or if I need new brakes so I am interested in hearing what others have to say as well.

what "clips" are you referring to ? Generally speaking, some extremely slow speed squeeking is not a big deal, particularly after rain, however, i am curious what you had on wrong for a few hundred miles, and what your rotor surfaces look like??

I first followed the directions in the post named "Detailed Writeup on Changing Brake Pads-Beginners!" There are 3 clips on the rear pads that adhere the pad to the caliper when you slide them into position. The first time I installed them I just rested them in the caliper not realizing that they needed to be slid into place. If you look at the later pages of the post mentioned above it points this out. I didn't put much grease on the back of the pads before sliding them into position. I will correct this over the weekend and let yall know it that does the trick.

when I said lube, I did not mean grease... use brake anti-squeal

You are correct in pointing out that difference. I get the proper break lube from the local Auto Zone or Pep Boys in those little packets. I am not sure what the difference is but I always use the recommended product. Once a mechanic told me just to use a black synthetic grease but that did not seem correct to me. Always use what is made for its purpose. I will post over the weekend after I add the correct LUBE. I always use the correct Lube for the correct situation.
