I saw where MINI is going to get new cup holders that hold any size fast food cup. Said MINI would have them available at the dealers for everyone. Said they are going to come from MINI-Fini.

So I went to MINI-FINI just to see what they've got.

and under GEAR, I found all sorts of Tow Links, Cup Links, Arm rests, etc....

The article said would be on the 2004 MINIs and anyone else could buy them from the dealer. I don't think they are at the dealers yet.

New Cup Holder Article

on the MINI-FINI site, I didn't look long enough to see if I could have ordered it from them. I'll have to return to it and see.

How does the new cupholder work? I can't quite make the design out from looking at the picture (and I've looked on MiniFini's web site too). It looks like it's just a strap or something.

My problem with the current cupholder isn't that the bottom is small - you can get tall cups with small bottoms, like at Subway, for example. My problem is that the console is angled out over the cupholder so that even if the bottom of the cup fits, a tall cup hits the console, tilts over and spills. Some just don't fit at all.

So I bought one of those folding cupholders from Moss Mini. I use one of those plus the rear cupholder.

I don't want to jump the gun here with info that shouldn't be released but I should have them in my hands in 2-3 weeks. I'll post a full review on my site then.

Here's what I know about how it attaches . . . and I only know what I've read...

The Cup-Link System * Black only. Made of molded engineering thermoplastic. The Cup-Link™ itself clamps securely to either or both column at the center of the Mini console. The Cup-Link™ can be adjusted securely with a screwdriver in just seconds. Several can be used on the same column. The Cup-Link™ slips on or off easily leaving no mark on the column.

Cup-Link™ Cupholder Specs: Black only. Molded engineering thermoplastic. A pin drops into the Cup-Link™ to secure the cupholder. This cupholder holds every size fast food cup and the Mini travel mug. The cupholder can be rotated to several positions for the convenience of the driver or the passenger.

I like the fact that you can get different attachments for it besides the cup holder. There's a picture holder, which I think I would like, and a sushi tray(?). It says on the website that you can only get it through your MINI dealer if you live in North America.

I just spoke with MINI-FINI and here's the scoop...

The cupholders are being boxed to be sent to BMW right now. BMW will then send them to the MINI dealers (presumably all of them). Some of the dealers may not know that they are coming, and in fact the local dealer (Midwestern Auto Group) had no idea when I was in there last week.

The cupholders will be at least 2 weeks out and perhaps more depending on how fast BMW turns them around.

There is no general information on the armrests yet, but I am sending an e-mail to their sales guy shortly for info on that.

The cup holders will definitely be handy, but check out the cargo platform, etc. at MINI-FINI!! My MMA told me about MINI-FINI long ago, but when I called my dealership last week the parts department hadn't heard of them. One fella looked into it and (miracle) called me back the next day to tell me that they would not be carrying MINI-FINI at Princeton MINI.

I think I've adapted to life w/o cupholders. I used to take drinks on the road, but since they weren't that healthy anyway, I'm better off without. I now use the MINI cupholders to store other stuff, and they're perfect for that. I'm happy!

Thanks for posting the info on the cup holders. looks like it can be modified to accept other items- lots of electronic things or even a remote control holder or garage door opener holder. Some good ideas over there.
I too am a fan of bridger.us/mini

I agree that I've adapted to life w/o cup holders. I've also learned how NOT to eat in my car...which is better for MINI interior cleanliness AND keeps me away from the harmful health effects of McDonalds. Good things all around, IMO...and thus I don't need American-sized cupholders. Period.

But, that tow hitch looks very nice! I don't really need this either, but it's really an wonderful solution for those who do need to tow with their MCS.

More info from MINI FINI:

Cuplink, as it's called, will be at dealers in mid August.

Armrest will be at dealers in early fall, whatever that means.

This is directly from the ExecDir of Marketing and Sales for MINI FINI.

I read an article in this months Motor Trend (I think that was the magazine)
It had an article about the John Cooper upgrade for $5000, and an other article
which talked about the cup holder and that MINI is listening to "INTERNET" demand for the Fog Light / Brake Light conversion.
The dealer is going to start doing this.

I will bring the article tomorrow.

I don't eat in my car either, but we do get take-out often, and we need places to put the drinks for the ride home.
