QUESTION ABOUT A DTC CODE!! HELP!
so im driving my 04 cooper s this morning and everything is going great, till out of no where the service engine light starts blinking at me and then goes solid. the car still drove fine...for about 3 mins after the light then started to misfire...well sounded more like a dead cylinder. i thought out of blue that my MINI morphed into a wrx with a aftermarket exhaust on it. (it sounds just like a wrx) so i get it home which was only a couple mins from when it started and let it cool off then checked the codes. the only one that i dont know and cant find in my bently manual is P 02. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THAT IS!!!!?????
by the way all the plugs where fine and i replaced them about 10,000 miles ago. and after i put the car back together it will not start.

thats what i was thinking too. but at the same time i have never seen the check engine light blink 10-15 times before going solid. i just got back from my local mini dealer and they just bull shitted me the whole time. so they are no help. and they wont work on the car due to the mods that are done. looks like i might just replace the coil pack and see if that solves anything....unless someone on here has an idea of what could be up.
Start by pulling the UniChip
and see if it gets happy. Codes are 4 digits, so something is amiss there.
The dealer not scanning (or at least telling you what the code means) is pure BS. That's how a lot of dealers maintain their "stellar" reps for customer service.....
Then it's divide and conquer time. Move plugs, wires, injectors around and see what moves the misfire. Also compression and leakdown checks. Even though it's got a computer, standard engine diagnostic techniques still work.

yea i have never seen or read anything about someone getting a flashing check engine light. and i know codes are 4 digits. thats the reason im so confused about all of this. im going to be getting a new coil, plugs, and wires to see if that fixes it. i guess i need the wires and new coil anyways. hopefully cylinder two decideds to work again after that.

Flashing CEL lights usually mean "stop driving immediately". Much worse than a steady light.
I've never seen a code that is just three digits.
What other codes did it throw bedsides the one that you can't figure out?

Turn the page (ODB-6) you may have a bad or clogged injector....Or may be stuck open (Curcuit) Per ign. check???
Do you use cheap gas....or did you get gas somewhere different?...(watered down gas)

i always fill the car with BP or mobil gas. so it might be an injector. i did just replace the coil plugs and wires thinking that might solve it....but it didnt. so im going to have to check my injector now.
but has anyone on here seen a blinking check engine light or heard of a P 02 code?? my guy Dustin at Bill Jacobs MINI in naperville looked really shocked when i told him about the blinking CEL earlier today...the mystery goes on.

If you want to test the injector theory..
just move them around. See if the code moves. Also, if you want, I have some stocker you can borrow. Just PM me your address and I'll express mail them to you...

Standard OBDII protocol is for a 5 character code. The 'P' designates the powertrain, the 0 is for SAE sanctioned codes (generic, i.e. not specific to MINI), and the 2 is injector related. The problem is that you should have two more numbers following the '2' that specifies which injector/injector circuit is misbehaving. The code stored in memory is pooched for some reason, and you should try clearing it and re-reading. Maybe more than once, until you get a full code.

i have re-read and cleared about 9 times before reading this post thinking the same thing. it has yet to give me a real code. i did grab my buddies automotive stethoscope and plan on listening to the injectors first thing in the morning to determine if the injector decided to crap out on me. if so then it will not be a problem to get a new one or try cleaning it.
thank you everyone for your help and i will give an update after i figure out whats up in the morning.
just making a quick update on the situation. the injector for cylinder two is not working at all, which explains the dead cylinder.
i determined this by first starting the car and using a automotive stethoscope to listen to the injectors. they all made their sweet clicking on/off noise except for #2. then i was thinking it might just happen to be an electrical issue, so i pulled the intercooler off and unhooked all the injectors and the fuel pump relay. i grabbed my test light hooked it up to the positive battery terminal by the intake and had my buddy crank the engine while i went down the line checking the ground portion for each injector plug which i did get a blinking light on each, showing the ecu's signal to open/close the injectors was going through. sooo with all that said, its time to replace the injector!!
once again thank you all for your help with the problem and like always "two minds are better than one." i would have never thought the injector would have been the problem this soon with out a helpful community here on NAM. also once i have the injector and swap it out ill give a final update on the problem.
