Anyone have to take out some plastic when putting new stereo in?

I took out my old stereo and put an Alpine 9883. It seemed to meet with some resistance in the last centimeter or so when sliding it in. when I look inside I see some plastic which is probably designed to hold the back of the stock stereo's plastic nut that screws on the back of the stock stereo. I can probably just force the stereo on, but that bit of plastic doesn't seem to be necessary. The new Alpine sounds way better than the stock radio incase anyone was thinking of changing their stock one out.

in my 03, when i put in my 9855 i was shocked by how much room there was back there, and the 9883 is a much smaller chassis HU. what year is your car?

I have an 03 too, hmmm. I should have taken a pic or maybe I should measure the distance from edge to where the plastic is. Perhaps it is just hitting the wiring harness.
