R50/53 Bummer - Got my first speeding ticket
I got 2 tickets in the first 1 1/2 months. Both times I was late getting out of the house for work and it was a new job so I didn't want to be late. The first was a laser only 1 mile from my house and 3 weeks later I got nailed by radar on the freeway (81 in a 55, everone around me was doing at least 70mph). Needless to say I am much more carefull where I do my fast driving. I need to be clean for 1 more year before I can risk another ticket.
>>Yes....welcome.
>>I didn't get mine for speeding though......exhibition of acceleration. vrooooom.
Uhh... is that even a legal term? Technically, anyone taking off from a stop should exhibit some sort of acceleration. I guess if you're revving and stuff, but some people are just naturally quick to get going. Not good on the gas milage, but that's just some folks' driving style (noooo, not mine. Never.) - you can't give out tickets for style, unless the style is harming other folks.

Exhibition of Acceleration? What State are you in? I'm an attorney and never heard of that one before. If you were drag racing or smoking your tires off the line, OK, but other than that, it seems a bit silly.
I suppose the local constables are used to people dragging their bottoms off the line at the speed of mud since those folks are busy talking on the phone.

OK, everyone, some required reading: "A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets" by Sgt. James M. Eagan, N.Y.S.P. (Ret.). This little gem describes cop psychology, how to talk yourself out of a ticket (and what NOT to say or do), the best times to speed, how best to trick radar, etc., etc. Fascinating reading!
Some of it is common sense, but other things you would never suspect unless you were a cop yourself or knew one well.
As the back page blurb says, "It's a shame that someone with twenty years of service would turn around and do something like this."
Lt. Michael Downs, spokesperson, New York State Police
