Yesterday I went to Concord MINI with the idea of buy a MCS. They want 2499 over msrp. He had an O3 IB/B ready to go with all the same options...but I have my heart set on an EB/EB. He said I could order it and have a 04 by Nov.03 same price over msrp

I decided to keep checking around. Over at East Bay MINI they sell at MSRP. no mark-up but they say the wait is 8-12 months for the same car. How does the msrp + dealerships get their orders faster??????? since the profit is going to the dealership not the manufacturer??

I figure paying 2500 over to equal tax and registration, or even 1/3 of the way to a WORKS system.
Can someone explain please! Thanks
Sure wish I was motorin with you all... but I'm still in the circling pattern.

People are less inclined to pay the mark-up when there are other dealers in the area that sell at MSRP. They would rather sit on the list at MSRP. So the MSRP dealers have a longer wait list.

Another option to consider is traveling. I purchased a one way ticket to New York and bought my MINI from Westchester MINI. Then drove it home and broke it in on a nice road trip. Call around. If you're not too picky (or if you're just lucky) your car may already be sitting on a dealers lot somewhere. You may also find a short waitlist in the process.

Good luck!

Dave

ps - thanks for the PM

I've only heard of 2 dealers in CA that sell at MSRP. One was in SoCal (don't remember the name); and the other one that is noted a lot is East Bay MINI, and that's probably why it takes that long to get an ordered MINI over there.

If you really want to get the best deal you will have to do some research (think of it as a labor of love) Pick up the Dealer Directory at any dealer (or the dealer info that's on-line) and first start out looking in the Western Region and contact every dealer in that region. Find out who's selling at MSRP; from there, then how long the wait is. Also refer to the Dealer Rating System here. If you don't get a call-back from a motoring advisor, try another one at the same dealer. The first one may just be too busy, was on vacation, etc.

Also, the only other Western Region dealer I know that sells at MSRP is MINI of Hawaii. It took 4 months for mine to come in, but that INCLUDED the West Coast dockworkers strike delay. It'll take around $850 to ship, more if you want it containerized.

Good luck

I'll be honest with you, I went through the same thing with MINI of Concord and a few other dealerships. Excellent sales personel and good availability but not worth my wallet to pay upwards of $2,500 or more on top of MSRP. That's why I looked at dealerships that sell at MSRP only.

I'm in San Jose, CA and I went with MINI of the Hamptons (Southampton, NY) and purchased from Jerry Halloran. I called him to get an idea of the new MINIs available in the parking lots and was pleased with my MINIs features and options. I purchased her (Pooky Junior) at MSRP only and even ordered the car alarm and factory carpets.

The only downfall is that I had to arrange shipment of my MINI with their suggested trucking/carrier company. The shipping took a week and a half only. But I felt good in that the money I would have spent here in CA went to something.

The other two dealerships I know of here in CA that offer MSRP are Pleasanton and Long Beach MINI I believe have a one yr. wait or more.
