R50/53 Smokers Package?
Smokers Package?
I'm getting set to buy a late '03 model MCS in DS/B and I called the dealership so they could run the VIN and see what packages were factory on it. It came back as having a "smoker package" anybody know what that is? The man helping me had never heard of it before. I am so hoping this isn't an ex-smokers car, because it's perfect but I haven't seen the inside yet.
Thank you,
I was worried for a second, somebody actually was a hardcore smoker enough to order a car with a "smoker package"

Typically, once a cigarette is lit inside a car the interior is ruined.
Also, you might want to check it for Katrina parts:

Many new cars today don't have ashtrays or lighters in the cars as more people are quitting smoking. I know in some states its illegal to smoke in your car if there is a child in it. The "smokers package", like mentioned above is the removable ashtray and lighter is optional. My car came with this "package" but never smelt like smoke. If you smell cigarettes then do a lot of airing it out, like mcs22004 said, it ruins the interior.
You can get rid of the smoke smell. Get some of those chlorox wipes in the cylinders and wipe down all of the plastic. Use Armoral window cleaner on the windows. This next step is done with a shop vaccuum, we have a Rainbow - one that uses water as a filter, it sucks like mad and captures every bit of dust and smell. Anyway, vaccuum every bit of carpet, spray febreze, let dry, then vaccuum again. Use the circle brush attachment to vaccuum the headliner and instrument/radio. I also vaccuum all of the plastic and dash with that attachment after the wipes. Vaccuum the air vents. Remove the cabin filter and replace that. There is probably smoke in all of the vents, turn the air on recirculate as you spray febreze mist near the intake. Then use leather conditioner on the seats.
This whole process will nearly eliminate all smoke smell from the car. Ive used it on old rental cars someone has smoked in, as well as my own car to get rid of the "automotive shop smell" after sitting in the shop for days with opened windows.

Many years ago I got my Dad's SAAB 900 as a hand me down. They smoked at the time and had the car for about 6-7 years. A thorough spring wash inside did eliminate all evidence. This included a good uphosltery shampoo with a carpet / upholstery steam cleaner. The biggest surprise was the white microfiber like headliner. It was literally yellow from smoke. My friend took a rag soaked in simple green to it as I yelled, NO! I was sure it would just swirl it around and make it worse. It came completely clean and white again. Amazing.
simple green will do wonders. I was given a 92 honda accord from my chain smoking ex step father. He drove it for 14 years and 289000 miles until he gave it to me. A bottle of simple green, many wash cloths and carpet shampoo braught it back to non smoker friendly. The person that i sold it to couldnt believe how clean the interior was on a 92.
The "smoker's" package is actually a European (esp. British) option. As previously mentioned, it comes fitted standard on all US spec cars. As such, it appears on the VIN configuration reports. It has nothing to do with the owner's preference or proclivities.
Nowadays, however, I think the cigarette lighter terminology should be dropped in favor of power outlet. I see them used for that far more than as a lighter.
