people are crazy! i drive 110 miles a day in atlanta and i'm always worried some drunken hillbilly is gonna get pissed at me and try to jump me. i've been thinking about putting my tire iron under the driver seat (don't need it to change tires!) or maybe buying an uzi.

It's not to late to file a complaint against "the Greek". Go back down to the police station and tell them you want to file a complaint.

So you were in a crash because the "greek" Saab driver in front of you came to a sudden stop. I am sorry that this happened, but it is your fault for not allowing enough distance to be able to react and avoid a collision. ); but it is your responsiblity to try to anticipate the unexpected and allow room to react. I know you must feel like you got sucker punched when he suddenly came to a stop in front of you. I hope you will learn from this experience so you will not fall victim again. Bummer of a leason.

About the head lock. For the record, road rage is a crime in Oregon. Assault is also a crime, but you have to prove it. I don't know the laws in your state but unless you have physical damage and witnesses, I would not go after this guy. Just forget it, and just hope he doesn't claim whiplash after all you did run into him. Remember, "don't wrestle with a pig, because you will both get muddy, but the pig will enjoy it."

Normally I would agree. I'm the first person to say I was speeding or did this or did that. I know my law it's my fault, but everyone knows there are times it's not. This was one fo them. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this guy was trying to prove a point, he was being an ***. The way I see it, he didn't want to get hit but he saw me coming and wanted to slow me down or annoy me. I was about 40 feet behind him, not tailgating. The fact is, not matter how good you are, if someone is going out off there way to to the unexpected, it can cause problems. I having been in a crash in almost 10 years, I'm an excellent judge of what people are going to do and jerks out there. By law my fault, by life, his

Just a little self-defense lesson for everyone. If anyone gets you in a headlock the best thing to do is this. Reach between his legs and grab his testies and begin to squeeze them like you would a jar that is hard to open. twist them and do not let go. When he goes to his knees you can either run and call 911 or proceed to kick the crap out of him. And for our male assaulters that have little between their legs just punch them in the groin and this will work but make sure your aim is good.

On the headlock defense...

The first thing to do is to rotate your head, so that you can clearly breathe, if your neck is being pinched. Rotate your head until your face is facing the attacker's torso. This puts the pressure on the back of your neck and frees your airway and also allows you to get into position for the following move.

A less aggressive move to remove oneself from a headlock is somewhat awkward but highly effective. With your head rotated, reach up with the arm on the upper side of you body (depends on which side of the attacker you are on). Extend your index finger and quickly press it below the attacker's nostrils.

While pressing back FIRMLY on the base of the nose with your finger, quickly guide the head back and at the same time, position your leg behind the attacker's leg. Continue pushing the head back until the attacker loses his balance. If this is done quickly, the attacker has very little defense. It is almost impossible to resist the nose press, and the head will rotate backward.

Using this method, you can literally topple your attacker with very little effort, and you do no damage to your attacker, other than a little discomfort to the nose.

However, it only removes you from the headlock. What you do next is up to you.

See ya,
JS

So you smashed up his 30k+ volvo and people on MCO wonder why he was mad.

You def made the accident sound like your fault at any rate...if you destroyed my new car I'd be pretty freaking pissed too (although the last time I resorted to violence was a long time ago).

At any rate, no harm no foul. You f***ed his car up, he gave you a headlock for a while....seems even to me, no need to get the court involved.

>>They gave me an itemized list. The parts aren't that much. (front bumper 140, Hood 332, and a lot of 18, 40 and 30 dollars parts).
>>
>>There list is 1324 total for parts, then about 1800 in labor, then taxes.

As for the repair costs... those sound about right, for a quality job by a shop with a good rep. You're lucky the air bags didn't go off. Cars have been totaled by insurance companies over the cost or replacing air bags.

As for keeping vs. selling the car... It should be *almost* as good as new after the repair, but there will always be a few things (hopefully small) that will never be the same. Check it out after its fixed. Given the resale value of the MINI. You could probably get into a new one without too much out-of-pocket.

As for the assault... It *was* an assault, but probably the result of adrenaline, and you weren't hurt. I would try to have his actions documented in the report, just for the sake of documenting them, and let it go otherwise. *HOWEVER,* if there's the slightest hint that he's coming by your house, or making additional trouble for you after the fact, I'd report that to the police immediately.

You can always think of worst case scenarios, but most likely he'll leave you alone. If he hassles you at all, most likely a visit and some advice from the cops will deter him.

Thanks guys. Needed to vent yesterday.

I'm not to upset about the car after I drove it again today. Driving wise I can't even tell it's been hit until you go outside and look at it. This is a good thing.

I am to take some blame, I should have anticipated him stopping on a corner on a major road (Waukegan) and leaving his back end out. What's that old saying, everyone else on the road is an 'Idiot" with that in mind...

As for the headlock, I agree it's adrenaline. And he let go with under a minute. I wasn't scared at all though. I was in the Army, which doesn't mean much, but it did teach me that size make no difference. But the bigger they are, it hurts more

ToeKnee,

Kudos to you for being big enough to admit partial blame. You are an exemplary MINI driver!

I'm happy to hear that the damage still seems cosmetic. Here's hoping it at least looks like new when it's repaired, even if you know the car's history.

>>Gotta be an Arizona thing (wild west and all...).

For those of you who think you can come to Phoenix and get away with smacking someone as long as you don't leave a mark, unfortunately that's not true. (In the movie Grifter's, didn't Angelica Houston get beat with a sack of oranges because it wouldn't leave a mark?)
There are three ways to commit an assault in Arizona.
1) intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing injury (any mark on the body will do),
2) intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of imminent physical injury (that is, scaring the crap out of someone, even without touching him), or
3) knowingly touching another with the intent to injure, insult, or provoke (a finger-poke to the chest is enough).
Now, getting the cop to care enough to make an arrest is a different story.
