I really don't want leather or leatherette but the space cloth isn't available in the Cooper. I have read a couple of people say something about the lumbar support only being adjustable if you have leather seats. I test drove a MINI with leather and my back was sticky by the end of the ride so I would prefer cloth.

Anybody have any input on these sport seats?

Thanks

Laurie

Kaleido with the sports seats here. They're very comfortable, cool in the summer, warm in the winter, they look pretty funky (which I like). The sports seats hug you a bit better than the standard ones, but still won't hold you in tight if you drive like I do sometimes. My only negative would be that they don't look like they're gonna hold up over time. Already, I have some pilling on the seat back of the driver's seat. But the way I figure it, I'll wear them out, then buy some replacement seat covers later. All in all, I still think they were the best choice for my body, my climate (NJ) and for my style.

Good luck choosing,
Kim

I have the cloth sport seats on a cooper and they are great. The lumbar support is not adjustable, but it feels great to me. My wife also loves the lower back support. Last week we had 100+ temps and its nice to get into the car and not get fried. I have never felt hot and sticky with these seats.

Do get the sport seats. Even if you don't get the complete sports package, the $270 you pay for the sports seats is well worth it.

Dear WantmyMINI:

I have the Sport seats in Kaleido cloth and have found them to be quite supportive AND breathable. I was concerned over the 'non-adjustable' lumbar support, but have found it to be just fine. Now others have commented on their "discomfort", but I just guess this means their back is in the wrong place. As for everything personal [like clothes or cars] try it out yourself and see what fits. Good luck.

I just drove my 03 MCS with the Kaleido Sport seats 3000 miles on a trip to FLA and back, and I have to say they were great. Very comfortable during the ride and the FLA heat didn't seem to effect things a bit. Highly recommend them.

Hey MichaelD you have my MINI (well, except for CVT - we got the 5 spd.)

Thanks for the replies. I feel much better about the Kaleido cloth now. We got the Sports pkg. so we are definitely getting the sports seats. They were really comfy for both of us in the test drive. We're both kind of short so the lumbar hit us in the right spot. I was just afraid the cloth might not feel the same. Funny, the dealer had no cloth seats in stock to try out. Oh Well. They are kind of funky looking but then so is the MINI - Hee!

I saw a silk green w/white yesterday - very nice. Too bad they discontinued it.

I've got space cloth seats. Drove a friend's MINI the other day with leather seats. Try as I may, the lumbar felt like a deflated bag in my back and was driving me CRAZY within the first mile. The lumbar support seems to only ADD to the generous lumbar support already there and present in not leather seats. Yikes, how much lumbar does one need anyway? Scoliosis????!!!

Dave,

See my "Leatherette Backache" post. Too much lumbar for me, and way too high!

Regards,
Red

I hear ya' Red. I just picked up my MINI on 7/4 (yay!!!!!), but I'm having trouble adjusting to the kaleido cloth sport seats. Just can't seem to find a comfy position.....I'm only 4'11", so maybe its just a short person thing!

I might have to check out one of those pillows you mentioned in your other thread. Yikes, driving with a pillow. I feel like I'm becoming my mother

Who'd have thought anything about the MINI could be too big!

D.

Yes, I think a person's height/size might be a factor. I have the black cloth Kaleido sport seats and I love them. I find them extremely supportive and I don't miss the extra lumbar support at all. (And our other car is a Volvo so I am a stickler for car seat comfort.) I highly recommend them. I am, however, 6'0"/210, so maybe my experience doesn't apply to other body types.

I'm a cloth seat person, but I'm going with leatherette and cloth covers for durability. I figure if something bad happens, I can yank the cover(s) and clean the vinyl instead of having some kind of permanent stain and no way to get it out short of removing the seat. I think the downside is that the covers will never look as good as regular cloth seats.

I have the kaleido Sports seat and find it comfortable, warm in winter and OK in summer, unlike leatherette or leather, which can feel hot initially. The seats do a good job of holding me with its side bolsters. I've driven it on a 2000 mile trip (with many rest stops, of course) and can say that the MINI is most comfortable, especially when you have cruise control for such long trips.
