R50/53 new tires before first oil change ???
Yep, 6200 miles and the Pirelli's are almost gone. To make things worse, I hit a pothole and broke one of the sidewall bands.
I was wondering what to do next, stay with the OE tires, or go with something a little more "fun" ?
Thanks in advance and thanks to MCO for having such a great website !

I had a service guy in one of the delaerships confirm that the Pirelli's were wearing out WAY ahead of schedule. I would go for something "fun", but having an MCS you need to think about the runflat issue. I know a number of people here running performance tires and carrying fix-a-flat around just in case. Do you do any winter driving? Your sig pic looks like it...you may want to get a set of winter wheels as well with true snows on them.
I'd go for something fun and get rid of the weight of the run flats. Buy a can of fix a flat, a mini compressor to throw in the boot, join AAA and you will still be way ahead of what it costs to replace those cinder blocks they call run flats.
At 6200 miles, you may have a warranty opportunity, though. Not sure how that works with tires. That is way too few miles. Have you been tracking the car?

A motorcyclist trick is to take an average 12-v compressor typically available at Wallymart and cut it down to size. Take off the all of the plastic, remove some of the other non-essentials (crappy-type guage), hose that is generally too long, cut down the electrical cord to fit the car/bike, etc, etc and it'll generally fit in a small tupperware containter. Just be careful of the heat and gears on the motor... they'll take a chunk out of a finger.

I talked with my neighbor who owns 43 tire stores and he suggested getting the top of the line Hankook tires. Not really my first choice, but the price is right and he is my neighbor. I let everyone know how it all turns out. Thanks to everyone who responded.
I must go motor now . . .

If You have a close costco they can special order or you can online order:
Bridgestone potenza Pole position S-03 in 215/40-17 or 215/45-17 for about $158 to 171 each respectively. $9 to mount and balance for each wheel and lifetime rotation and balance every 5000 miles. The tires should last 20K miles and perform well on track or street. Not runflats though.

Just got back from having the new Hankook's installed. I am very underwhelmed.
First off, they might have dinged one of the rims, it may have been there, but I doubt it. Secondly, they inflated the tires to 30 psi and reduced the pressure in the back ones from 38 to 30.
The first "test" corner I went into, I almost had it all the way around ! So back to the tire dealer. Now we raised the pressure to 38 psi all around. OK, back to the "test" corner.
Now the thing squeals like a bunch of piggies ! The lack of grip is surprising. I am VERY dissappointed. Right now it doesn't feel like my car, it is THAT BAD.
Good news is they have a 30 day replacement policy, if you're not happy , they will replace them with whatever you want. I didn't need 30 days, 30 hours, or 30 minutes, these babies are coming off !!!
I guess I'll try the Yokohama Parada Spec 2's next.
Later . . .
