When you are done and you are pushing +350hp, I wish I could see the faces of the muscle car guys and ricers you will smoke at stoplights. Imagine if you will, you are at a light, and some ricer/muscle car comes up..."What's this? Oh, it's just a tiny underpowered MC, this will be fun..." 3, 2, 1, green. "HOLY CRAP! Where'd he go?!"

To combat some of the lag, Have you thought about getting ball bearing turbo. Or even the stock twin scroll turbo from the new r56's?

pretty much all the Turbos these days are Ball bearing... anything that has a GT in front of it... well at least all the ones worth while.. but the R56 is way too small... lol... no way... plus it has it's own housings specific for the car... it would be way easier to get something from Garrett.. like a Disco Potato...

Actually yes I did. I've got a Garrett GT1544 ball-bearing turbine sitting on the couch still in the box.

My gf just sighed and said "so it finally came in huh?" whenever she got home and saw it sitting there on the couch.

Another way to go is Jan is looking for guinne pigs for low boost rotrex on the Cooper.

This is the route I'm taking for my 450 hp turbo R50 sleeper project.

I will be using the block only and core out the head for the jesus head w/ custom grind cams, use stock 6 speed tranny and ditch the stock clutch.
custom short stroker crank
custom titanium pistons & rods
Garrett twin scroll GT35 turbo
use the 6 speed getrag and ditch or sell the clutch depending on condition.
And all the rest of the ancillary equipment is undecided at this time but will be designed to support this huge heart.

Most of the initial base design has been established still toying with piston design. Everything will be ported, pollished ballenced and blue printed.

Project start date: early 2009
Build completion date: late 2009
Car conversion and installation: early 2010

My son will be helping me with this design build and will be making the pistons for me. Its going to be the coolest thing I...we've done ever!

You know this is the first time I looked on this forum for this subject but nabeshin those were my exact thoughts and my thoughts also drifted to.. An isolated 2 lane twisty hwy and along comes the ricer/muscle car...goes by uphill...and you STAND ON IT and the next thing they realize is you are no longer in sight and while ther'e stopped at the next pull off and tossing their dirty shorts your'e confident this is what went through there mind "I almost lost it trying to catch an M/C?...??????????????????"

Dont ask how I found it but i stumbled across a mini cooper non s turbo charger kit. Seems legit to me and may be a worth while investment.

Interesting indeed... I think "legality" will greatly depend on where you live...

In NJ, the state run inspectors basically just plug into the car's OBD II port to check emmisions... so as long as the ECU isn't throwing codes, it'll pass... the bonnet isn't even opened...

In urban/suburban PA it's similar... although since inspections are done through privately run garages, there can be some leeway (it can really pay to have a long term relationship with one shop). Of course, there are also parts of rural PA that still have no emmisions inspections at all (varies by county) and those who live out there can get away with a lot.

I know you can get away with pretty much anything emmisions-wise in Arkansas or Florida. They don't even run inspections in those states

Isn't this just another "universal" kit that is being marketed as a complete MINI kit? If so... hasn't it been proven that those "universal" kits do not work? I could be very wrong here. And searching doesn't seem to be readily bringing up the old threads about failed Cooper turbo attempts...
