Takasago's getting closer
Feb-09-2004 00:00 43 54' N 42 06' W LACR5
But they report 41 knot winds and 25 ft waves.
I bet that makes the rough ride from the 17"s and runflats look like a walk in the park.

Rivituso,
I e-mailed my MA last week. He said my car would be ready to pick up about 7 to 10 days after it lands in NY. That means I should be able to pick it up by the weekend of 2/21.
BTW Feb-09-2004 18:00 43 24' N 47 06' W LACR5
Winds at 38 knots and waves at 13 ft.

hi q-man,
i was just wondering where you get all the good information about your ships location? do you get it from the ocean weather website? i've been trying to track my ship, the BUJIN, but i can't seem to find it's call sign on their site, despite the fact that it sailed 2 days ago...
also, is your ship heading to Port Hueneme? how many days has it been en route?

You can get your boats location at http://www.oceanweather.com/. You just need to know the ship number. I don't know where q-man got that. But it is very addicting watching your ship. You can get your port information (departure & arrival info) at
http://www.2wglobal.com just put your vin number in the auto tracking box.

yohman,
There's a good FAQ on tracking your MINI on mini2.com here. You get the call sign for your ship from the coast guard site here. The call sign for the BUJIN is 3FPW3. Then if you look up the observations table on weather.com here, you can search for your ships call sign and see its last reported position and weather report. It doesn't look like BUJIN has a recent weather report.:???: That's nothing to worry about. Ships voluntarily report in every 6 hours and they only keep the last few reports in the observations table. If a ship is busy or the officer on watch is lazy they don't report in. Its not unusual for a ship to "disappear" for a day or two. Since weather reporting is voluntary, in some cases, ships might not report in at all, but thats rare. BTW, you can see the weather report here, just click on the part of the ocean your ship is in and then click the marine observations icon at the top and you get a map with all the current ship locations. This only gives the current report which your ship may not have completed so check the table for older reports.
rivituso - on the map the line drawn from the dot representing the ship is the direction the wind is blowing. The number of flags at the end of the line is the wind strength. More flags = more wind. The wind is blowing west on the TAKASAGO. I don't think this really helps their time to NY because the waves slow them down quite a bit.

I got my MINI on Saturday and I LOVE IT! I'll post pics as soon as I quit driving long enough to take some. Here were my time frames:
(Keep in mind I live in Phoenix, Arizona)
Ordered Mid Nov 2003
Car Built Dec 18th
On boat 12-25-2003
Off boat in NY on 1-8-2003.
At dealer on 1-21-2003. That part took WAY too long. Darn port time takes forever.
Dealer installs took two days. Car began trucking process to me (from NY to AZ) on 1-26-2004. Car arrived in my drive way on 2-7-2004. I'm still wearing my grin.

Something doesn't quite mesh here. In NY on 1-8-2003(?), at dealer 1-21-2003(?) and started trucking on 1-26-2004. Even if your 2003s should have been 2004s, then the car arrived at the dealer before it left NY. I know I'm not going to make much sense when I get my MINI either, but can you clear some of this up. Particularly I'd like to know how much time your car spent in the VPC from when it came off the boat before if shipped out out by truck. There seems to be a lot a variability here, some cars take just a few days others can take weeks.

BTW latest TAKASAGO sighting
Feb-10-2004 18:00 42 24' N 52 30' W LACR5
winds down to 22 knots and waves down to 5 ft.
Only about 20 more degrees west to go.
And for you history buffs, our MINIs are now just about directly over the wreck of the Titanic.

thanks for the updates, q-man. I check the same sites but sometimes miss the location reports.
Believe the titanic sailed out of southampton also. At least it did in the movie.
I'm in Minneapolis, so I wonder if our MINIs might ride in the truck together?

PBFoot - I would think that most dealers get their allocations in batches big enough to fill a whole truck, especially since almost all also get BMW deliveries as well.
Bad news, looks like the wind and waves have slowed down TAKASAGO. Arrival in NY is now listed for 2/13.
I hope those guys at the VPC work over the weekend.

I saw the same listing, I was not happy about that. I thought today was the big day. Friday the 13th, not good. I hope I don't get the yo-yo problem everyone is talking about.

Soo Close!
Latest TAKASAGO sighting Feb-12-2004 06:00 41 N 65 36' W LACR5
That's just outside NY (NY is about 74W) and the report was about 8 hours ago. I suspect they'll get into port late today.
That's one day earlier than the revised schedule but one day later than their original schedule.
BTW - yohman, I found a site that has a history of weather observations, I got it from google when I put in your ships call sign. Anyway, it looks like your ship is one of those that just doesn't do weather observations, there were absolutely no reports from your ship ever. I'd just keep looking on the WW site under your voyage number to find when its due into port. This seems to get updated rather promptly when a ship docks and they also update the schedule if there are delays.

The WW site reports that the TAKASAGO arrived in NY today 2/13 and departed today 2/13. The funny thing is that it now lists its next port as NY with arrivel 2/13 and departure on 2/14. I suspect that it actually stops at two places in NY to unload cargo. I don't know if our cars get offloaded on the first or the second stop.

Just saw that they docked. It will be interesting to see if they are offloaded today. The second stop could be for pickup, fuel and additional cargo. What do you think?

My experience was the ACTUAL departure shows up in red. It doesn't necessarly replace the original listing (black) for a day or two. So there could be 2 listings showing. One red (the good one) and one black ( the guess).
My MC was on the Aida into NY early this week. My MA told me that he expects the truck to arrive at the dealership on Sunday (they're closed but they can off the cars) and I can expect his call around noon on Monday and possibly get it on Monday afternoon/night.
It's so close that I can almost smell ii!!!!
