I have a 2003 MINI COOPER that will not lock its doors even from the dashes door locking toggle switch.I opened the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side to investigate.There was a #20 fuse which displayed a key icon on the fuse map.Figuring this was the problem,I pulled it out to find it blown.I proceeded to replace it with a spare #20.Now my door locks will make a clicking noise when I hit the switch but they still do not actually lock/unlock.What's particularly troublesome is the fact that there doesn't seem to be a way to manually lock/unlock the rear deck so it stays unlocked all the tiime now.Can anyone give me an idea where else to look?:impatient

 

did you check the fuse again after you replaced it?

 

if there clicking the fuse is working, I would guess

Long shot but try unplugging the battery for 15 minutes?
I would doubt that both sides would fail at the same time I know there is some posts where the lock comes appart but both at the same time?

 

disconnect the battery? that is a long shot.

the locks for all the doors run off the same circuit. if none of the locks work from the master switch then get a new switch.

 

I had this problem in my car after I had some work done at the shop. I had a fuse tapped to provide power to a hidden iPod charger and it turned out that that when the central locking fuse is not working, no matter what you do, the car will never lock. A long story short, I fixed it by fixing the fuse problem.

I know that many people have had problems with the central locking unit going out in their car, but that causes random problems like having one window roll down half way and one door always locking. You are definitely having a fuse problem imo.

Thanks all for the replies .dwarrenku-Are you saying that it might not be the fuse but something in the fuse box or the cars ability to recognize the fuse?

 

There has been discussion of corrosion in the large connector that plugs into the fuse box. Unplugging and spraying with contact cleaner, then re-plugging solves the problem. This issue may stem from pillar water leaks. so look for water stains.

Does the key in the drivers door lock ..... lock and unlock the MINI?

 

Thanks for weighing in on thisSpeedwing.The drivers side will lock from the outside with the key.For the passenger side,I can press down the doors locking pin from the inside of the car to lock the right side of the car.Of course there is no key entry to the car on that side.As for the back deck,I have no options.There is no key entry from the outside and I can't find a way to lock (or even open) it from the inside.

If the problem is the fuse boxes large connector,wouldn't everything else ipassing through the box be nonfunctioning?I did find the cooresponding fuse to the one on the key symbol blown.

 

My problem was with the fuse not connecting with the fuse box. Though it was in the fuse box, it still wouldn't connect, because I accidentally made the fuse box side of the connector too large.

Basically, the fuse was not making contact with the fuse box, and the circuit wasn't being completed, because of that the car was constantly unlocking itself.

Sorry, when I had the problem on my Mini, I couldn't lock either door from the outside, with the key fob, or from inside. This may be different than what you are experiencing.

 

If I remember right there is a latch or somthing under the rear seats as a manual release for the rear hatch
FYI
