R50/53 Cowl vent mesh not UV resistant!

Do you have pics of it installed, MINI NLA the old vent style and all you can get is the new style.

never foam if you can help it

Because of this thread, I panicked, and went and checked my 05 MCS. Mine has a new and improved vent grills - no self-destruct foam . This is another evidence of never buy air filter constructed of foam. My experience is not just most do not withstand UV well, they typically don't withstand ozone or hydrocarbon well either.

I will post some soon. That's why I decided to keep the originals and bring them back to life.

I like the foam as it prevents debries like pine needles & etc from going into engine bay.

Originals lasted 15 years and I bought a new foam sheet for $1.50 vs $45 for a new pair of updated vents. So it was a no brainer.

I agree with you on the air-filters.

I had the dealer replace mine with the new style vents just before the warranty expired on my 2002 MCS. The vents were just under $9 apiece back in 2006.
