just picked up a '02 cooper n/a with 70k miles.

shifts extremly smooth. but from what i read in my searches it can implode without notice. so i was wondering if you all would know of a way for me to check out the tranny and the infamous seal to tell if it has allready been delt with or not?

im going to call a local dealer tomorrow and see if they have any records with the VIN# in their system.

Call 866-ASK-MINI with your VIN.
They can tell you all the packages that came on the car... and WHERE the car was serviced. (They can't say WHAT was done though)
Once you have that list of dealers you can call them and see what work was completed.

Good luck, and don't sweat it... odds are better that you don't have a problem.
