OK, I just got my car back from Mini for service for various reason. One of the problems was the car doesn't start if you let it sit for awhile. They said they reprogramed the ECU, but this morning it did the same thing?? Also they didn't fix the rough clutch and shifting, and they scratched my car by the gas tank

This is really pissing me off.

Gee, that's helpful. Do you mean this particular car, or MINIs in general?

Azzurri, weren't you the one who posted last week about your "clutch problem" and the cold starting problems ... and we warned you NOT to have the software "upgraded" (as this seems to exacerbate these problems)? Well, what did they upgrade the software to?

Red gets jealous whenever another red MINI appears. Azzurri (your name means BLUE, correct?) check out another dealership for service if possible.

Yea it does mean blue, but It also is the Italian Soccer national team nick name. I never read anything about not reprogramming my ECU?

Pluse it's not cold here its about 80.

There no other Mini dealer in Columbus next closes one is in Da NAtti.

I really don't know what programm they did for it.

Also that wasn't me about the problems, I asked how much I could get for my Mini.

OK, sorry, that was someone else. So, let's start from the top...

1) Describe your the problem you seem to be having with the clutch.

2) Be more specific about the car "not starting" when its sat "a while". Does it crank and crank and not start? How long of a while does it need to sit for this to happen? Does it EVER start after sitting (obviously yes, or you'd never drive it)? How fast does your car start when it HASN'T been sitting a while?

3) MCS or MC? What's the build date (month/year)?

4) Can you find out what version of the DME software your dealer used when they reprogramed the computer?

Sorry for all of the questions, but if you can expand on your original post, maybe we can help.

1. The shifting is very clunky, and gets stuck sometimes.

2.It starts then the engine slow dies out, and I have to keep trying. Like 2 hours or so.

3. MCS 12/02

4. Don't know

Duh, ok, now I've read the back threads and see that you're the guy who wants to sell his MINI and buy an Evo. Now I also understand Red's comment since he was in on that thread.

Hey, go ahead and sell it...your MINI is probably trying to get away from you 'cause it knows it's not loved Some things just weren't meant to be.

But if you're serious about getting to the bottom of these problems, there is help and info. Well, except for things like scratches, bumper dents, and windshield dings. That's just bad luck.

If you prime the system by placing key to accessory 2 first (for a few seconds) then crank it over, does that have any affect?

As for the scratch, did you point it out to them PRIOR to leaving the lot? If not, you're screwed. ALWAYS inspect your car for damage before you leave. Once you're gone it's out of their hands.

I just got mine back from service as well. It was in for not starting when cold (would only run for a second, then die), the notorious 1st gear stumble, absurd lack of power at low RPM, and other common problems.

They upgraded the ECU but had no idea to which version. When I picked it up, I pointed out the fact that none of the problems were fixed and was told that my car is not as bad as most so I should just suck it up. I've driven other Chrysler cars and never had this kind of trouble -- I can't believe they are having such a hard time getting the engine to work in this car.

One week ago had 33.2 installed to fix the cold start problem.

Problem fixed, it starts every time. Slight stumble under hard 1st gear accel, only when engine is cold.

As far as I can see the upgrade fixed my problems and I'm extremely happy.

05/2002 build, MCS. No mods ... yet

Do you want my 2k2 Neon? I cannot get the service dept to fix a stumbling issue when it's humid. I even went up the ladder to corporate level attempting to get it fixed. It stubled on the test drive and was told was some moisture in the fuel lines from sitting too long on the lot. It should go away in a tank or two of gas. I trusted them. I was wrong to have done so! Have over 12k miles on it and still hasn't gone away. Do you want my Crystler piece of crap Neon?
