Aftermarket sunroof installs

Has anyone installed a sunroof in their non-sunroofed coupe after production? I have a hard top, and crave to see the sun again. ( I miss my ragtop!)

There is a company in Maryland that does that, I don't know the name but I know it can be done. My sister bought an Altima last year and wanted a sunroof, so the dealer sent the car to the place and had the sunroof installed. I'll try to get the name of the company from her (she might know or have paperwork from them.) But I would assume it isn't a cheap thing to do.

A sunroof can be put in nearly any car, and there are multiple places that will do it. HOWEVER, you won't have the factory drain holes, it likely won't seal as well as a factory job, and it'll still cost you a small fortune (depending on how it's done). Enjoy the fact that your Mini is more structurally sound, lighter, and less complex than the rest. Mine is a solid roof too, and it doesn't bother me. But then, I do have a convertible to take out when the mood fits...

Your best bet is probably to sell your MINI and buy one with a sunroof. Other choices are: 1) have a cheap pop-up sunroof installed (anyone remember the seventies?) which should avoid the drainage problems if you close it when it rains and it is properly installed. The downside is that they look really lame. 2) find a wrecked MINI with a sunroof, and have a body shop graft the whole roof clip to your car. This is sometimes done with old cars (I know of several successful efforts involving Mercedes-Benzes from the 1950s and the large Webasto cloth sunroofs). The downside is that this is really expensive--it's unlikely this would cost less than trading over to a car with a factory sunroof installation.

We have one with a sunroof, and I miss having a car WITHOUT a sunroof!

You can get the OEM MINI folding roof. I don't have pics or a part number but it is REALLY cool!!! A local guy has one that came on his MINI when he picked it up used.

this kinda crossed my mind before because my cousin works at a dealer in Boston and told me that both windows in the new MINIs both panes go up at the end part of each piece of glass and then the back closes when the front one opens completely and i wanted to know if that could be dont to mine?
