R50/53 MINI Destroyed :(
Just came to mind this morning now that I think back to reading the article.
I found it interesting scanning the crash test results a while back and I must say now the article has proved itself true.
In a crash test between the Mini and a Ford F150 supprisingly the Mini came out ahead.
This was a result from the car being so well designed and all the parts being so compactly put together, Might make for a bit tricky modding but in the occurance of a event like this All mini owners will be Safer.
The F150 did much worse since there is so much space in inbetween all of its parts allowing for more crushing. If I remember correctly they were saying that in both cars the persons legs would have broke in the F150.

Perhaps not!..
Have you considered trying a clay bar on it?.. I hear they work wonders..
j/k.. Glad you're still with us.. Hate to see the temp tag on the back of your car.. It's a sure sign that you haven't really had a chance to enjoy the car before it went to the big Mini graveyard in the sky..

And a MINI hitting a F150 head-on, MINI looses, period.
For the OP ...

Has your insurance paid off the loan for the MINI that was totalled?
"That'll buff out, I think that part was loose already, oh, and that's *supposed* to be on fire..."
Yea ummmm OK guess you've never seen a Ford after an accident. They bend up like an old pop can. My part of the country is nothing but PU's and you see alot of them at the body shops after a good snow. You would have a much better chance in a MINI than a newer PU.
Glad you're OK gerbil !
But in a head-on collision *with another vehicle", you have to dissipate the combined kinetic energy of *both* vehicles, and the F-150 has almost twice the curb weight of the MINI, so it has twice the kinetic energy, assuming both vehicles are traveling at the same speed. If the truck is moving just 50% faster than the MINI (like 45MPH versus 30MPH), the truck has almost *five times* the kinetic energy of the MINI.
Because of the way energy is transferred in a collision, the structure of the lighter vehicle has to absorb some of the energy from the heavier vehicle, in addition to its own energy. So, the frame and body of the MINI are going to have to absorb some of the energy from the truck, and it's frankly not up to the task.

When did I say anything about just hitting stationary objects? Trucks are made to withstand very different forces and built to different spec's than our MINI's are. Have you compared pic's of trucks that have rolled? How about some pic's of trucks in accidents like at www.wreckedexotics.com. I have seen dozens of trucks that have been in accidents with passenger cars and every one of them has been in worse condition than the car. You can't compare the crash worthiness of our cars to a truck simply based on weight.
Guess my engineering background doesn't count chows.....ya putz

Glad you're OK.
I am also wondering about the air bags - there are, what, 5 or 6 of them in the MINI? Did they all go off, and more importantly, where they involved with you walking away? Hard to tell in the pics, but didn't really seem like any of them deployed.
Separate note - the pics were bad enough to see, but were even more disconcerting since my High Energy is also Liquid Yellow.....
