Ive filed a police report and we'll see what happens. More Pics

Fence post almost impaled me...

And The only unbroke window lol

What really worries me is that not ONE of the airbags deployed durring the entire crash, think there might be some kind of defect there.

Yikes!!

"What really worries me is that not ONE of the airbags deployed durring the entire crash, think there might be some kind of defect there."

After looking at the pics I was under the impression that they had deployed.
Gotta say, that is more impressive that you were able to walk away from that.

Best of Luck tracking down whoever is responsible.

That is one f***** up MINI. Geez, you really lucked out not to be more injured, especially with the fence post. Good thing you were seat-belted.

Yeah, I'd have thought that the seat airbags, at least, would have deployed, but maybe they're designed just to go off just in a more direct side impact as opposed to a rolling impact. Probably good that you didn't have the sunroof, too. Going by the final look of the roof, who knows what would have come through a sunroof during that.

Dang...that fencepost hole is scary!

I'd maybe cut that out and have it framed...nothing like a daily reminder of your guardian angels at work...

I was thinking exactly that !

Nice that you got out alive, but where was it hit ?

oh and

'What really worries me is that not ONE of the airbags deployed durring the entire crash, think there might be some kind of defect there.'

The front airbags will only go off in the event of a large front-end collision - at relatively slow speeds it will not go off. Only when you stand a chance of head-butting the steerign wheel

The side ones, again only go off under large sideways loads - judging byt the damages, I would say you did not get close to decent levels of side-impacts (sure the post impact was big, but very localized).

Personally I would not expect to trigger them in the crash you had

+1 for right rear

Broken wheel assembly, broken side rear window and massive impact smash leads me to believe right rear. Perhaps as you were going through the intersection, the ********* that ran the stop sign hit you before you were able to exit the intersection completely?

Glad that you are ok, sorry about the car. Gives me more confidence that a MINI is a very safe car despite its size!

Best regards,

Trent

-1 on right rear - that looks like dig-in and roll damage.

The only place that looks a possibility would be left rear - it is clean(ish) (did not happen in the dirt) but judging by the surrounding damage that was probably a fence/fence-post damage spot.

wow... and i thought i had bad luck with my MINI. :( i dont understand why cars keep trying to hit all the mini's like its a game of wack a mole. Its pretty amazing you got out of that okay, i sincerely hope that you find the truck that did this and that they pay for a hit and run and death of a MINI.

Not necessarily. The air bag sensors are strategically located and only activate if they take a hit from a certain angle. Considering you walked away from that crash, I'd say they were all functional at the time of impact.
Now, regarding that puncture in your driver's side door, that is a clear testament to just how fortunate you were not to be more severely injured. We lost a co-worker less than a year ago in a single-car accident when the end of a guard rail punctured her driver's door and her vital organs. And that was a lot less of an accident than what you experienced.

Thank Goodness that fence post didn't puncture a foot higher !

I am no expert, but I think you are going to need an alignment.

So glad you are ok. I would have recomended that you check out the "local" body shops but it's been said. So once again I'll just say glad You're safe.

On a side note it's nice to see the MINI "family" is concerned for one of there own.

My heart aches for you and your MINI. I was once the victim of a hit-n-run driving my (much) modded Datsun 510. (this was years ago) Never caught the perp.
Best wishes in tracking down the D@#$%^bag!
Jim

Truely sucks

Glad your ok, I would not want to take pictures of this mess. But it does make quite a 'scrapbook'.

It's good you did what is right, made out the police report, you have had full checkout with your family doctor or the hospital, just say YES SIR. You have used up a couple of those 9 lives we all think about. Not easy to walk away from this type of toss and roll.

From your description on getting out, the A and B pillars did their job, but could have done a little better. MINI/BMW USA might want to take note of that! Send them a letter thanking them for building a very safe car, with a suggestion on roof crush testing. Heck, send them the pictures.

I hope you get a new R56 or replacement R53 MINI soon, perhaps another yellow one. Laugh in their faces.

Best of luck finding the perp!

Don't be upset the airbags did not deploy...you are here to discuss them not deploying...and that itself proves maybe they did not need to deploy....I am sorry about the MINI but most importantly you are able to talk with us here and discuss the horrific incident.

Your accident scares me…but it also makes me think I made one of the best purchases of my life when I bought my MINI…..

I wish you the best!

Man, I really feel for you. I bet you are so sore. It was only a couple days ago that you were talking about your new car, and showing us your shiny new MINI.
Please keep us posted as to what happens. We are all rooting for you. I just have one question...why didnt your insurance company impound the car? It seems a horrible reminder to have it parked in your driveway.
