R50/53 crash test data
Agh! It's not that small!
For random example.
Toyota Echo:
Height: 59.4"
Width: 65.4"
Length: 163.2"
Mini Cooper:
Height: 55.4"
Width: 66.5" (75.8 to the outside of the mirrors!)
Length: 142.8"
So Its a little shorter (less than 2"
and there are sportier cars shorter than this.
The mini is a little wider.
However it is >20" shorter.
Thats less of a target for a side impact.
and 20" more breaking room for the guy behind.
Really though, why being shorter makes you more squashable I don't know!
Pebble.

--> That's pretty cute. I was thinking the same thing.
-->Unfortunately, lots of folks tend to equate size with safety. I've seen plenty of evidence on I95 and Route 78 (in NJ) -- lots of flipped over vans, trucks and jeeps -- that states otherwise:-?
In any case, I'm gonna be snug as a bug in a rug when my "boo boo" arrives in Oct/Nov

Thought you might be intrested, I sent this to the NSTA

Hello,
I was wondering if you had an estimate as to when the crash data for
a MINI Cooper, and/or a MINI Cooper S will be published.
Thanks,
And they replied with this...

We apologize for any inconvenience that this time delay may have
caused, but A
LL dates are tentative. Earlier in the year many vehicles were slated to be te
sted and the availability of those vehicles were limited to selected market re
gions, therefore causing tremendous delays. Crash test facilities and NCAP wil
l continue to work diligently on providing information on a broad range of veh
icles. So please continue to be patient, many vehicles will be posted soon.
Thank you,
Crash Test
Please visit the link below maybe they have some information on the vehicles y
ou are looking here.

Pebble...Thats less of a target for a side impact.
and 20" more breaking room for the guy behind.
I guess that means that if he has more BRAKING room, he will have less BREAKING room. Those are the breaks.....or is it brakes? With today's schools, you never know.

>The thing I'm wondering about are what types of situations (velocity, point-of-impact) Europe tests their cars. Look at the size of European cars compared to America. They've got far less SUVs on the road. It'll be intersting to see the differences (if any) in the results. This car has amazed me by how many safety features it has.<<
Europe may have fewer SUvs but they do have higher speed limits. When I was in Germany, I saw VERY few traffic accidents. The ones I did see, however, were extremely bad.
I have done the research and I have decided that the MINI offers the safety features of at least a $50,000 car. I am confident that I am safe in this car. I have three other cars: a 91 Syclone, 91 Honda Accord Wagon and a 92 Typhoon. I think in all cases, I am as safe, if not safer, in the MINI than I am in these other cars/trucks.
Another thing, If we only drive cars that we feel totally "safe" in, would we push that supercharger or that turbo to the max? Would we see if we can redline or do 120 in a car that has such as the "max"? No, we'd drive the speed limit in our cars and not do anything out of the ordinary.
I told one person and I will say it again. I'm not ready to die, but if I do, I hope it's in one of my cars, doing Mach 3 and it's fast and painless.
Barb, with a need for speed!
