Question about CAI options

ok so I have been doing some research. Is the Silicon inlet by ALTA really better than the aluminum? Also does the silicone vacuum and radiator hoses really work better and last longer?

I have an 04' MCS and i am starting the engine upgrade process, starting out with all the little things first so these items are on the list.

THANX

For more info, try searching under the mods tab for more info on CAIs- you'll find some good threads there.

I am assuming you are talking about the silicone hose part of the CAI, right? I'm not sure what you mean by 'better than the aluminum"???

As for the radiator hoses- I wouldn't even bother with them. The stock stuff is fine (although BMW is notorious for crappy plastic ie: clips, etc). Those hoses can be replaced when you're pushing some serious power.

ALTA performance has a Silicone inlet most other CAI have aluminum. Just wondering if the Silicone is a better choice

Oh. I have the Alta CAI and I love it in, in every way. I don't think that will make too big of a difference. Alta is a very reputable company that makes good, quality products for MINI. I'd say go for the Alta, but you will get many opinions on that. In terms of hp/tq...they're all about the same. (CAIs)

What CAI's use aluminum? K&N? Aluminum is a very good conductor of heat and using it as an intake tube really isn't a good idea. The stock rubber or aftermarket silicone would be much better

+1. Typically rubber or silicone, only a few use aluminum and it's NOT better. I have the Alta silicone hose - but mostly for looks vs. performance...
