I'm in!

I have a confirmed registration in group 3 for the March 7, 2008 Team Continental Driver Training.

Time to install new brake pads along with the brass caliper bushing kits and do a bleed.

I hope I'm not alone.

Cheers!

Do you have to take the drivers school the night before for the team continental day if you have done track days before?

Nope. Only if you want it to count toward a racing license (which requires two driver training events with the classes).

The event is filling up if you don't already had a confirmed registration. You get the confirmation when you pay. I got an email today that said groups 1 (novice, participants/students that have never taken a Driving School) and 2 (intermediate, participants/students that have taken at least one Driving School) are full with reservations and they are wait-listing folks for those groups. If people haven't sent in their payment by February 9, then they'll allow the wait-list to participate. Group 3 (advanced, with approval from the driving master) is still open as well as group 4 (race prepped cars). My guess is that a few will drop out that haven't paid and there will be opportunities for those on the wait list.

I'd sign up pronto, if you're interested.

Here's what they said...

January 25, 2008

Again I want to thank everyone that has pre-registered by email and to those that have sent in their completed registration form and payment. At this time we have 66 participants for the March 7th School. The Team Continental Driving Master, has asked me to close the registration for Group 1 and Group 2. Group 3 is close to being closed. Group 4, race prepared, cars is still open.

The closing of Group 1 and Group 2 is based on pre-registration emails. I will keep spots open in the school for those who have sent me their pre-registration email, but have not mailed in their completed registration and payment, until Feb 9th, 2008.

If you have been waiting to send in your payment, please be advised that I do not process Credit Cards until two weeks before the school.

I will continue to take pre-registration emails and start a waiting list for Group 1 and Group 2 for the March 7th School.

If I do not receive the completed registration form and payment by Feb. 9th, 2008, I will drop those now on the unconfirmed March 7th school and go to the waiting list.

We certainly appreciate everyone that has signed up for the school.

Should you have any questions as whether you have only pre-registered or are on the confirmed list, please do not hesitate to email or call me.

Again this is being sent to a large email listing, but at the end of January I will remove all those that have not either pre-registered or are on the confirmed list.

Driver Registrar
Team Continental.

This may be a bit early for me as I need to have a fairly clear pass to drive over with my summer tires on. I really don't want to have to mount and unmount tires when I get there. Plus it gets a bit crowded in the back.....lol

I think I will have to wait for the weather to clear up a bit more.....
Have fun Chris !

On a side note......what tire would you recommend as a track only tire? I am considering getting a dedicated tire/wheel combo. I would like to do 3 or 4 track days a year and would love to have the tires last at least 2 seasons.

Wow that booked up fast, I will mail out my check to Team Continental on monday and hope for the best. I did three track days last year, and had hoped for group 2 but will take what I can get this year. I hope to see you Gromit there!

Track Only Tires

For something that I would drive on the street, I'd consider the Kumho ECSTA V710, Hoosier R6, Avon Tech R, or BFGoodrich g-Force R1 to name a few. These are all basically slicks that you wouldn't want to have on the street and would give you trouble on a wet track. They have circumferential groves to make them DOT legal (barely). There are probably some others out there too, including competition only slicks.

Gromit and Scott, you both can stay with Cooperdriver and me at our house.
Scott, you can change your tires here. We have a garage and a basement!

Cooperdriver wants to do a trackday as bad as I do, but with the first one filled up for our run group we will have to try for the next one.

I would second most of those choices (although I dunno that Scott will be driving w/ these on the street, seeing as he apparently lives in Bend...)
I wonder if the Hoosier road-race tires wear out as fast as their AutoX tires... but I'd be hesitant to spring for them, because of it.

I tend to favor the V710's -but I'm using them for both AX and track days.

Yeah.....these would be a dedicated track tire. I would like to have them last at least 2 seasons for a total of 6-8 track days.

Ive got my approval for the Mar 7th TC day, not sure if its group2 or 3. For track tires Ive heard great things about the Toyo RA-1's. Once they warm up they are supposed to be really stick while still communicating there limits to the driver. Something to consider though, is what size you are going with.

Since I won a Motegi Traklite at this last raffel, i may need to pickup three more and roll a set of track-only wheels myself before long :P

I am thinking of doing the Cascade HPDE on Mar 15. Hopefully the pass will be in better shape by then.........LOL

In regards to the track tires. After checking out the prices, I am either going to spend my money on something else ( WOW) or try and get some that will last at least 4 seasons. If I am going to pay twice as much for tires as my street ones, they are going to have to last a lot longer.........lol

Cool- I haven't done a TC day yet, but I've done lots and lots of Cascade days!

Awesome! Those are the wheels I was looking at for our Mini! (Although for some reason Tire Rack shows the polished lip only in a 16" version, and not a 17"... )

If I can't get it together to sign up for these two, I'll do my level best to at least be there to hang out...

Y'all can stay at our house too... We only live a half mile from T.O.A.G.O. and the wife. Both of us are close to PIR too!

You can just call me Thinker, it's shorter and less of a PITA to type.

We are going to have to wait on the track day until summer I think, hopefully sooner though! Plus, my Justacooper needs new brakes soon.

Scott-

Yep I'll be at the opening. It should be a good time.

I'll do my best to be there at PIR, the 15th day as well...

RE: the Rockers...John and Diane were down south, on a huge road trip all holiday break (away from email). I'll see them this weekend, so I'll mention that they check thier email.

I can't figure out how to log thinker out and me in.... anyway this is jess.

We'll be at the alta/ pir things next weekend. Just send one of us an email if you don't have our #'s and we'll figure something out.

I think we've agreed that I'm doing the first track day this year, but we have to get our finances in order first so it could be summer. It will be a TC day when I do it - I've got some bad habits to unlearn and I still haven't got a handle on the new toy.
