Cherry Blossom Run update
The Cherry Blossom Run is in the books!
We had 31 MINI’s and 61 People turn out for this great springtime run. That’s just one less than the record number on the Lighthouse Tour. It was a Chamber of Commerce kind of day for we PDX MINI members, as there were absolutely no clouds and it was 70 degrees. I forgot it was Oregon… in April, as it felt more like early September.
We started the run at the meet up location in Wood Village, on the far eastern reaches of metropolitan Portland, and headed east. We drove the back roads, the Columbia River Highway (it’s twisty and narrow!), and a couple short spells on I-84, ultimately making it to The Dalles. We then turned south and eventually west through more backroads, connecting with highway 35, heading towards Mt. Hood and Government camp. After a stop, to stretch the legs and take in the mountain air, we headed back down highway 26, to the fine town of Zig Zag. Is there a better name for a town than that? Seriously?
After zigging through Zig Zag, we headed towards Troutdale through more back roads. There were lots of cherry blossoms, abundant sunshine and just one members’ car that suffered a flat tire (pesky nails in the road…). The tire did its level best to hold on to the leaking air, even after it's owner administered the evil flat tire goo, but it was to no avail. Thankfully one of our newest members, came more prepared than the rest of us, and offered up a very timely bit of help. A nifty tire plug device. It kept the little MINI bulldog in the run, even though they had to drop from the first group all the way to the 4th group due to lost time tending to their wounded tire. After some delay, and a dedicated Group that waited until they could get it running, Group 4 came rolling in to the finish. Waiting for them were the first three groups, and an attentive restaurant staff.
Hungry and thirsty, Group 4 arrived at our final destination. We ended the day’s run with a Pizza and salad buffet at Winks Sports Bar (www.winkssportsbar.com) in Troutdale. Folks sat inside and outside, socialized, took in the sun, and relaxed.
Anyway, many thanks to all that contributed to the success of this event. All these dedicated folks pre-ran the entire 184 mile route (in some cases, more than once) so the rest of us could safely enjoy the run with the fewest surprises possible. These folks then lead the 4 groups of MINIs through those twisties, blind corners, blossoming cherry tree orchards and deep woods.
Check out the photos attached!

Check out the www.pdxmini.org website for more pics from this run, soon..
We have a number of other photo sets that need to be uploaded, and they will be as soon as they are edited, etc.
We do have two new galleries up from an ALTA Mod-day at a members house (he has a kick-butt garage, and is nice enough to share it), and a pregressive dinner run.
Photos from a Tech day at MINI-Madness, and a number of other events are soon to come.
