Toyota FJ60/62 (85-90) Anyone selling?
Toyota FJ60/62 (85-90) Anyone selling?
I'm desperately looking to get a second vehicle, as Santa Fe is showing more wear than I like on my MINI.
I'm looking high and low for a mechanically sound FJ60/62 Land Cruiser. Cosmetically, haggared is better - all I want to do is dump gas in it.
Preferrably a stick, but auto would work too. Color is irrelevant.
If anyone's got one, or know someone who's got one and wants to sell it, please get in touch with me.
I'm totally game for catching a flight to anywhere within 1000 miles of northern NM & trucking home.
Thanks.

Check out this forum- it's for the new FJ Cruiser but there are a lot of older FJ owners and I've seen several 60's listed. There are a lot of good sources linked to that site that sell old FJ's as well.

Did you find it on the FJCruiser forum?? If so cool! There are some serious enthusiast for FJ's of all kinds on that forum. I was thinking about one of those FJ Cruisers myself but they can get pretty pricey and when you add in the gas bill-ouch! Land Cruisers are some serious offroad trucks!

It's an Albuquerque rig that's spent its whole life in NM (read: no rust anywhere, paint is in great shape - but most of the rubber under the hood is looking a bit dry.)
from fj62.com: "Most mechanical gear on your FJ62 was designed to be repaired and rebuilt in third world countries. These are not really sophisticated trucks from the mechanical viewpoint. Nearly any system can be maintained with general metric tool set and a good hammer."
I'm overhauling the steering knuckles & front birfs tomorrow. I'm excited to have a vehicle I can work on again.
Pics to follow.
The info from fj62.com is right on. That engine is the Toyota version on the old stove bolt 6 that powered just about everything from GM in the 40-50's. There is a good reason why you see so many old FJ's when you look at National Geographic-they just keep going. Check out Spectre Off Roads site- they have a video of a FJ40 getting used as a stunt truck and getting blown up-and then starting and driving away!

The Country LWB is probably my favorite suv body style of all time. And there's plenty of them around Santa Fe for sale. A good friend has an '89 LWB, but those Brits just can't seem to engineer anything that runs reliably. When I can afford to maintain one I def. want to own one eventually - maybe as a resto project when they're 30+ years old.......
Dang...I lost my chance to unload this:

p.s.: this guy has a great rusty car photo album.
