Overcompensation

As far as the wannabee hummers (H2, H3), it was covered in another thread that got locked, it seemed as though they fit the "image" the owner was going for as they wanted to be "cool" and not care about the cost of gas. The scary part is the "image" they portray as their advertising says if you don't get what you want get an H2 and run over anybody you don't like, sounds like catering to spoiled children.

My theory is that most people are morons but some people choose to announce it by driving ridiculous cars such as a Hummer. It’s not only the advertising campaign that essentially says, “I’m not gonna get pushed around and let people kick sand in my face anymore,” which appeals to the Napoleon complex of the majority who buy them, but the absolute sense of entitlement in their disproportionate use of non-renewable resources and disregard for our environment. The fact that they can “afford” to buy gas for their six-mile-a-gallon behemoth doesn’t entitle them to leverage the future of our children and other creatures we share this planet with.

Give up. Seriously. People can and will continue to express their opinions on SUVs (positive or negative) in this forum, in any thread. This is Off-Topic:Autos, and trying to force people into one thread for SUV bashing is a pointless goal. It just isn't going to happen.
Let it go - freedom of expression! Just as long as NAM Guidelines aren't being broken (particularly personal attacks against other NAM members or discussion of political candidates), none of the mods are going to force it.

Sure, bash away wherever. I'm still looking to get numbers across the community to see the real sentiments from different people because a lot of time, they are not freely given unless you give them the opportunity to freely open up. Thats why I did it. Some ppl already expressed that they felt better having a place to get it out of their systems where they probably wouldn't have before. Thats cool.

SUV bashing (or Aztec bashing, or anything else) isn't going away anytime soon, and just as I have come to accept that there will continue to be some people who want a pointless MMC number, perhaps you'll come to realize it's a fruitless exercise to funnel all SUV bashing to one place.
It's probably the same thing....

Let's see, I wonder why all those Mini owners get clown cars with old iron block/roots blower/single cam technology? Is it because they're only interested in image?
I don't agree with this, but it makes a point. People buy vehicles because of a mix of need and desire. Mini or Hummer, it doesn't make a difference. The implcation that one is wrong and one is right is more disturbing than the fact that someone may buy a car and not use it for it's optimal use case.
I guess what I wonder is why is there an assumption that someone is compensating for anything when that person makes a different purchase dicision?
Matt
I bought my H2 because everybody on MTV Cribs had one. I wanted to be like the celebrities. And don't worry I can afford it and the gas because I took a second mortgage out on my house. I even bought some 26 inch rims with spinners! And for you haters out there I have a 32 gallon gas tank, yea thats right, 32! So I can go really far even though I only get 10 - 14 mpg (but GM doesn't publish the fuel economy ratings although I'm really not sure why...
).
And its not MY car that is the problem in using too much oil, one car isn't going to make a difference! This is America, I'm free to do whatever I want! So if I want a big SUV I can have it! To hell with the costs on society! Its called freedom people! Besides I need my Hummer. Sometimes here in DC we get like 6 inches of snow and no other car could possibly get me around town...
And finally, I'm not over compensating for anything. My girlfriend told me that size doesn't matter...

Oh, and for th whole MPG thing, the Hummer is in a class of vehicle that does not require the manufacture to post the fuel consumption. As the saying goes, what they dont know won't hurt 'em.

(Just stirring up the bee's nest, if some feels they can justify driving a Hummer then by all means let them enjoy it, I only ask the same for my MINI)

If you can't believe what they say on MTV, who can you believe?
