Do you honestly need data to back that up? I don't think anyone questions who is buying SUVs now compared to 15 years ago...

As to clear cutting. Didn't Mr T or someone like that do that?

My point its your decision ... no one elses. You want to pass a law to ban clear cutting on private land ... write your congressman.
Have you never thought about making moral decisions and not basing everything on if a law has been passed yet or not? Does there have to be a law in print for you to know you are doing something wrong? If you KNOW you don't use an SUV for it's intended purpose, and you KNOW that it is hurting the environment/economy/dependency on foreign oil, then do you really NEED a law to tell you that you shouldn't own it?

So we won't put messages on windshields, that's fine, I hate when people do that too. But lets forget about that, because I think the main point here is the reason for getting a message out to SUV owners.

I agree that people need to speak up more and write their congressmen more often to get their voice out there and try to solve problems. But the problem is that the masses are not listening/acting, because they have that freedom, and so the problems don't get solved.

Everyone that is out there driving their SUV because of its image is doing so because they are misunderstanding their freedoms. We do have the freedom to do what we want, but as AMERICANS we are expected to do what is right and to make the better decision so that our country stays strong and powerful! If we all make the decisions based solely on what we WANT at all times, we will have a quickly crumbling government, and you will all wonder what happened to our FREE nation...

I just want to see people open their eyes, allow themselves to see what is going on here, and actually do something about it. If we all sit back and wait for someone else to react then nothing will ever be resolved.

Ok, so now owning an SUV is a moral decision?

mods on the way
What mods?

Are any going to improve your gas mileage? Do you drive in a manner that conserves gas? Or you every so often drive faster than 55MPH regardless of the posted speed limit? Do you every so often try to launch your MINI off the line even though it is not the most efficient way of driving your car?

Since owning an SUV now appears to be a moral decision based on fuel efficiency, do you follow your own morals and drive as efficiently as possible?

And to gromit who says that he doesn't like SUV's because their drivers almost run him down... I say that SUV drivers are no worse than any other driver out on the road. The idiot behind the wheel is the same if he's in an SUV, tricked out civic, mini-van, etc...

mb, that's true. However simple physics dictates that a bad driver in an SUV will probably cause far more damage than a bad driver in a Mini, in the event of an accident.

I find it difficult to understand why, unless you only walk or ride a bike, you give up your right to say anything on the subject. There are degrees of everything and no one is perfect. It seems to me though, to take it beyond this thread, that no problem will ever be solved, because everyone has the right to do whatever they want to do, regardless of the consequences.

I suppose that's just the way it is, and if I'm the only person who see's a problem with that, that's fine with me.

Given some of the activity that has transpired in this thread already, it's probably time to bring this one to a close. See everyone again next time the SUV topic comes up.
