What I Know About the Yaris...

Based entirely on TV advertisements, I know that the Yaris is an opportunistic car that kills things, abuses innocent piggy banks, sucks fuel and steals money.

WTF were they thinking with this stupid ad campaign????

They were thinking "how can we possibly get this $12,000 thinly disguised, re-named ECHO noticed."

Seems to be working.

Really? I kinda like it for a $12k car, lol....I think it looks way better than the Honda Fit, it's main rival.

What the heck is a Yaris? Somebody post up a pic for this thread. I've been on the road so long, I've lost touch with commercial reality....

I got more offended by Ford's tv commercial for their stank ahemn... stang!

dad and son peeling out in an empty parking lot at night... so these
redneck parents are entertaining street racing and reckless driving
now? WTF, Detroit!!! wat are you doing?!

Give the cheap little car a break!

At least we're getting the opportunity to get small efficient cars that are inexpensive! I hope they sell tons to Suburban owners!

My comments were made in good humor....I'm sure the hatch will be very popular!

Should be perfect for young people

who don't have much money. Not the most inspired styling though... The hatch isn't as bad as it could have been....

The hatch is like a smaller version of the old RAV4, kind of...not bad, but it is definitely not inspiring.

Inspiring designs are not typically Toyota's strong point, although they're getting better. Especially Scion and Lexus.

I'm inspired by the fact that Toyota and Honda have been motivated by the higher gas prices to bring their smaller, more efficient vehicles to the US to replace their entry-level offerings that have predictably grown into bloated mid-sized cars. I just wish VW and BMW would follow suit.

Here! Here!

Having seen the hatch on the street a few times now, I'm very much liking it. I'm not saying I'd buy one, but at $12,000 it is attractive. I did a build your own on it the other day actually.

The hatch is not half-bad....it is really hard to tell what the Yaris looks like from the official pix...

my dad is all hopped up on getting a cheap little commuter that is easy on the consumption seeing that his nissan titan guzzles the gas.
he is into the yaris hatch, we are going to go take a look at them this week, also going to check out the fit. aesthetically i like the yaris better, but i hear the fit is like a little go cart. while at the honda dealership i am going to try to take a ride in a S2000.

I'll keep my MINI, and if one was looking to buy new and the budget was the concern, I still think its worth it to go the extra 5k and pick up a stripped down Cooper, which would be far more fun and safe, just as economical and retain value better. But I'm coming from the concept that every car should be well balanced, fun to drive (not nessicarly crazy), great too look at and can still be economical. I have sat in many similar vehicles each and every time I sit in a Toyota or a Honda (even the S200) I get the disinct impression that the car is trying to hide something from me with tiny guages and hard to find controls. Its one thing I LOVE about the MINI everything is easy to see and reach, the car is fun, and I still can pull down better economy than my parents Camry, real world tests of a Civic Hybrid and the Prius. I'm at a complete loss to why peple would buy those cars. If you need a people mover then fine get a people mover, a hauler then drive a truck. But all too many new cars out there seem to end up being good at little but have the features to sell to everyone. To me it is a comprimise car in far too many areas, but perhaps it has good cupholder placement.

Now wheres chows to remind me I'm an enthusiast?

I am completely psyched that the Yaris and the Fit exist in the US market -- actually, just saw a Fit yesterday and really liked the looks of it. But the ad campaign leaves a bit to be desired. I think it's going to either inspire people to change the channel or scratch their heads.

Don't screw up the SUV backlash with a dumb ad campaign! :impatient

I suspect, Motor, that people buy these little cars because, for many, just chucking up the additional $5K is not an option... There's also a contingent of people who need to get from point A to point B and don't care how they make it happen -- not only do they not care, but they're probably not tossing in an extra $5K for the lack of concern, either.

It's nice to care about what you drive and not, necessarily, about how much it costs. But recognize that that is a luxury not held by many.

Ive seen both Yaris and Fit upclose...they are quality cars for the price
and the Fit's butterfly shifter is something people can appreciate having
for such a small budget car.

but i still preferred my 06 civic. if you're gonna go generic,
why not just get the bestest of the best ecno car...?

You must be talking about the tC? I still say that's a better car, even though a Honda salesman tried to tell me that "Toyota is crap."
