Anybody sick about Barret-Jackson?

OK, You got to be old enuff to appreciate this but ...
I've watched two cars ...
Mustang 428 CJ and Boss 302 sell for ridiculous numbers and both of those cars I was at the dealer, speccing out and decided against buying WAY back then ...
Oh to have 20/20 hindsight
I wont even think about the 70 Hemi Cuda

There there was the woman who bought a white 66 Stang 289 convert for $72K a year ago and sold it for $39K. Bummer.

Or how about $600K for the "right" to spec the first 2007 Shelby??? Of course, it went to charity

Anything with 426 Hemi in it sells HUGE.
But there are still deals to be had..
Last weekend there was an original owner 65 Mustang Convertable K-code (271HP HiPo solid lifter motor) for just $25k.....
Depends on where you look. Send that one off for a "freshening" and it's a $60k+ car at Barrett Jackson.....
It all comes down to people with too much money, and too few brains! When the fad ends, they'll come down a bunch. Like when oil hits $100 a barrel!

ps, I'm still kicking myself for not begging the 'rents to get the 65 Shelby GT-350 for just under $30k in the early 80s....

Yeah, there's a lot of people with too much money and don't know what to do with it. I understand a hundred grand or so for a completely restored (non-streetable) car but half a million+!!! Come on, are you really going to drive that thing around? Something that quality needs to be in the Concour de Elegance.
Add a 427 or a modern Viper or Corvtte motor and raise the price $100k. Cars like those need to be driven...prefferably in a straight line ; )

Yes this can be torture. Here's my story of woe....
As a 16 year old kid I landed a job running parts for the local Import parts store. It was 1968 & it was a dream job for me. Discount parts to keep my Bugeye running! One day they had me go over to the east side store & clean up the warehouse. In the warehouse there were all kinds of Cadilac V16 cars. Seems the owner loved those big yank cars. What really got me going was a small sports car covered with a tarp & lots of parts boxes. I'd never seen a car like it before. It was just beautiful. One of the guys that worked there said "oh that's just some old race car". After I cleaned out the warehouse I took a long look at the car & found out it was a Jaguar. I mustered the courage to contact the owner & "he said it was just some old race car, a Jag C type that had raced in France at LeMans". If I wanted it he'd sell it to me for $2,000. Then he cautioned me, saying "it would be a lousy car for a kid to drive around town & besides we don't carry any parts for race cars". Well to me at that time $2,000 was unattainable & after all he did say it would be a lousy car for a kid to drive & they didn't even carry parts for old race cars. I kept my Bugeye, but never forgot that lovely old Jag. The rest they say is history.......if only I could foresee the future.
I now have a wonderful wife, a fine son, a MCS & a Miata in the garage. Life is good.
Mr Peabody, fire up the wayback machine. I'm going back to buy my dream car......if only.

. I wonder what takes more money to fill up...a Hummer H2 or that
. At least the Corvette lives life a 1/4 mile at a time.I also like the comment about how's the best way to ship the Future Liner home
There's a way around the collector car insurance restrictions..
It's called a "stated value" policy. I have my Mustang insured for about $50k (not even replacement cost to build another one), but with an appraisal, Allstate will do it. It costs about the same as the Mini per year, and I can drive it any time, any place, I want.... In fact, that's why I stay with Allstate. Gieco wouldn't do it.

i had a chance in 1973 to buy a 550 spyder porsche from a good friend he wanted 3000.00 for it at that time the car had 28k miles on it it might as well been 3mil....ohhhh well................
My brother and I have stated value insurance through hagerty on our '47 chevy. You state a value, then an appraiser comes out and either agrees with that value or suggests a more suitable one. It is really quite easy and fairly inexpensive.
I am just SICK that it is the only thing Speed TV can put on every night. They could spend a few bucks and present the highlights of auction from every day and do it an hour a night. Paris to Dakar is going on right now, isn't it? Plus tire testing for Daytona 200 and Japan has Moto Gp's too I think. I am so out of touch is it still going to just be the 600's in the 200 miler this year? Sorry for the hijack, but non-stop auction, all nite, every nite, it's like the Home Shopping Network but for BIG $$$'s. I can just imagine what my 1970 and 1960's $200 VW's are selling for...

mini Mentioned!
I had taped some of the mid-week stuff ... not the top-of-the line stuff saved for the weekend.
A lot of small-block mustangs and camaros. Someone emailed them and asked if the recent redesign and sales in Mustangs, New Charger, new GTO, etc. would generate more interest in the older versions of these cars.
Basically, the answer was NO. To summarize ...they are two different markets (collectable not usually driven). The only recent exception was possibly the renewed interest in the mini when the new Coopers came out. A common mini might have sold for $5K got a temporary bump to maybe $10K but now thats worn off and its business as normal.
