Wow. It looks like some incredible engineering went into that factory! I especially like the "carosserie."
man, read some of those forums.

Any non Mini owner reading NAM is likely to reach the same conclusion about us. If not stuck up SOB's, then more than a little bit loony.
I mean, are the Phaeton owners baking little Phaeton cookies?
(BTW I totally believe that our MINIs deserve to be commemorated in gingerbread!)

Seriously, the only thing really wrong with the Phaeton is the badge, the car itself can't really be faulted as a luxury saloon.
It kinda looks like the Audi Forum in Neckarsulm, Germany. It a museum/restaurant/customization area that's attached to the plant where all the Audi A6 and A8's are built. I had a business lunch there during a trip to Germany. They have one of every car Audi has built, including their past race cars and you could get in most of them and pop the hood and stuff. It was pretty neat and apparently the plant is supposedly very similar in appearance.
After seeing those pictures, WOW!! WHat a plant! Maybe that's why VW can't sell the car, it's just too expensive. If they could manufacture the Phaeton and market it as a $40k-ish car, they'd be selling them like hotcakes!
Gorgeous manufacturing facilities..... Too bad the VW Phaeton was already dead on the water even before it was launched to market. The Phaeton is clearly the answer to a question no one was asking
Due to lackluster global sales, VW will soon put the Phaeton out of its misery.
I never understood what was VW's reasoning behind this car. To compete and cannibalize against Audi? More specifically the A8 flagship sedan? (Which is essentially the same car).
Volkswagen means "The car of the people" and the point I am making is that VW will never be viewed as a "Luxury" brand alternative to the more established players in the market.
Dr. Piech (Now retired VW Group CEO) was a brilliant engineer but he also was an arrogant mad man that nearly drove VW and Audi to the ground with his Napoleonic ego and ideas.
I have seen the Phaeton and it is a beutifully crafted sedan. Unfortunately, the buying public spoke with their wallets and very few felt comfortable dumping $75K+ for one and essentially still receive lackluster VW dealer customer service and iffy resale value.
VW needs to concentrate in their bread and butter models :Beetle, Golf, Jetta and Passat (Oh yea and bring back the Minibus van).
By the way, I think the new MK5 Golf/Jetta and the new Passat are fugly. Now VW seems to be infatuated with copying Toyota designs.
If VW continues down this path, I am not sure they'll be around in the next 5 years or so.
