It sure sucks to be a HUMMER dealer these days!

not that I want a Hummer but the tax loophole for these tanks is as big as the car itself...

thats great. It's bad enough putting almost $40 into the MINI. I'll take the 700+ miles on the 10.7 gallon tank of the Insight any day
. It's sickening to see a single person driving one of those goliaths...even more sickening to see they are usually of the generation that made it through the 70's. The next 15 or 20 years is going to be very interesting (and frightening if nothing is done)fitch: I'm glad we got the Insight in '00 before Bush got a chance to end the $2000 tax write-off for hybrid owners. The sad thing is that the 5 spd Insight doesn't even qualify anymore. The CVT Insight (which gets at least 10 mpg less) and the Prius both qualify but at reduced rates. What ever happened to the gas guzzler tax? Oh that was only for sports cars, right
Looks like we had better get a Hummer now before they are all gone, if the first artical it to be belived. Or if we go by the second artical, I think I am going to start a small business and try and find a three ton MINI. Maybe if I conect three of them some how I will qualifiy for the tax break.

IMO we should ship 'em off to the troops in Iraq, body armor the lot and let Halliburton run the whole operation.

I also like the idea of shipping them to Iraq where they might serve some purpose if given body armor. If they don't run then they could serve as private bedrooms for the troops. Call me a cynic, but I don't think the concept of "free" vehicles is consistent with Halliburton's business model. There would probably be a huge delivery fee.

This is an example of a perversity that got caught......what the heck do most people need something like that for to go about their daily lives....... I used to hunt and had acerage that required a 4X4 but nobody uses a Hummer.....a Land Rover.....Land Cruiser, Escalade........et al......
When I kayak, mt bike etc most people show up in the ....... well you have all seen them near the rivers etc.....nothing fancy big expensive to run......they can't afford it......woodies in their day were cheap and nobody wanted them
I hate it for America that the leaders of companies like GM are so out of step and because of it the trickle down theory is hurting us all (step down from my soap box)

i dont know about that article but they are building a new hummer dealer here in TN... soooo I think it depends on location since the offroad vehicles around here are all over the road. My friend has a blazer on 44in tires and a 12 inch lift kit he gets 3 MPH on premium... but he can go anywhere... i think it boils down to location!

I still haven't seen one with mud on it.... well not H2's anyway. That pretty much says it all right there. I have seen some very muddy H1's though. The H1 is still and always will be one of the best off-road vehicles IMHO. Right up there are the Land Rover D90/D110, Toyota Land Cruiser and Merc G-wagon. The good old american Jeep isn't so bad either. What kills me is these H3's and H2's... I mean they're the same vehicle as a Tahoe (h2) or Envoy (h3) but bigger, boxier and get worse gas mileage. The only reason anyone gets them is just to have a 'hummer' for status, not utility. My hat's off to anyone that gets one and actually uses it like it's supposed to... but mostly I see soccer moms climbing in and out of them (I saw one with 3 steps to get up in it!)

I just don't get it... The H2 and H3 ARE BUTT UGLY!!! I'm not into trucks at all and I don't understand people's fascination with them. Now if you are doing some serious off roading thats one thing but to drive a H2 around NJ and NY is seriously pointless! I see these behemoths in Manhattan all of the time!
The Hummers remind me of people who have those stickers.. "he who has the most toys when he dies ..wins!". I saw one once that I liked better..."he who has the most toys when he dies..is still dead."

The H2 and H3 are merely special bodied Chevy Tahoes and Chevy Envoys respectively. They are incapable of "serious" off-roading without major modification. Poseur springs to mind when I see these overpriced, slab-sided wonders.

I can walk 3 mph.
