There has got to be a story behind this one.

When I lived in North Jersey in the 90's it was dominated by VWs, they were everywhere. (I was the proud owner of a 1992 Fox). I used to see one of these in the area fairly regularly. I didn't realize they were production models - I thought someone had to replace a lot of panels due to vandalism or something and got creative
Nice to see one again - I'll always have a soft spot for VWs.

Interesting.
Typically Teutonic, but interesting nonetheless.

Now it makes sense why the "one" i see around me keeps changing their wheels... it's two different people!
Nice VW, i think it's hot.

I remember seeing a few of those in Chicagoland many years back.
Are you going to leave it like that or paint it over?

I see a few of these at the VW shows every year. I've always wanted one.

I saw one of these here a few years ago. I didn't realize it was a factory thing. Was it on purpose or were they built the day after the big company party where all the line workers got drunk?
j/k It looks good.

There's at least one in Richmond, VA. I used to think it was an artist's car. Maybe some guy with a bizarre Mondrian hang-up.

I totally agree about the Mondrian thing....that was my first take on it, as well!
I do think it is very groovy, though! The anti-teutonic VW!

Yes officer, the guy came running out of the bank with a sack of money and jumped into a green, no wait, red, oh no, it was a blue, or was it a yellow car and drove of northbound or maybe it was westbound.... oh well.

Hmmm...
That could be just the thing for those would-be MINI owners who just can't decide on the right color/color combo!

IIRC, Beneton had something to do with this. I think Neuspeed also had a matching steering wheel to go with it.

I've seen a few around here at the VW dealership. They use them as courtesy cars and run about cars for the staff. You would think with only 264 of them, they might be considered collectors cars....guess not.

YES, the "
Col ors of Be neton " campaign, at the time. MOMO also made a Monte Carlo steering wheel that matched very well.

I saw one of these recently. I seriously thought the person just got in an accident and was too cheap to get the proper color panels.
really odd that it's factory, I would have never guessed.
