Traded in the Mini - upgrade?
I was very serious about the Elise - until I tried to get in one. I'm way too fat and tall to climb over that rail several times a day - I couldn't even do it once!
I do think its the coolest car on the road, though. Next to the MINI that is

Tell us everything about it. I know everyone is SO into the Elise. We will live vicariously through you and your experiences with the best handling car in the world. I want one sooo bad.

Very nice ride! We also considered the Elise, but we needed whatever we bought to be a year-round car for us. Living in the Chicago general area, the Lotus just did not seem to be a good decision when it comes to winter. And so far the MCS has been a hell of a second choice.
Enjoy the ride in that Lotus!

We drooled over them for a while, but we had the same concerns that Rick-Anderson had. Neither of us are small people, and even for those that are, it's a car that you can look great sitting in and standing next to, but noone can look good getting in and out of it
Congratulations, Hammer! You're going to love that Aztec Bronze Elise. You do realize that you're going to miss your MINI from time to time, right? You need to check out the EliseTalk forum: http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/ I can be found there as "DesignIt" also. EliseTalk also has a good section on advice to new owners here: http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8027

Too expensive. Paying $40K for a Toyota Celica engine does not bode well with me. But yes, this car has alluminum construction, etc, etc.
I have seen a few here in Miami. There is only one dealer (The Collection Lotus, Coral Gables) and they are being marked up considerably. Great car for weekends, track days and fun but not a wise choice for daily driver.
The more I look at the Elise, the more I realize the incredible bargain the MINI (specially the MCS) really is. For the price of one Elise, I can have two "Basic" MCS.

That takes guts--err, or just the opposite. I have a hard enough time just getting into and out of my MINI. If I could lose 25 pounds I might be able to maneuver into that Elise and motor away. Over all those potholed and broken streets in my bankrupt town? No way. That Elise is not only a very special car; its owner must have a very special lifestyle. I'm envious.

I'm a MINI guy I guess....paying less than $20K (okay, I'm a Cooper guy, too
) for the kind of kicks I get w/ my MINI is a hilarous part of the fun. I really need that back seat as well.
Besides, it's not just a simple upgrade if it is also significantly up-price, is it? I mean, for $40K it'd better be an upgrade!
Nice car though.

 I wanted an Elise, too, until I realized that the oil changes are going to be VERY pricey on that mid-engine! It's got a reasonable up-front price, but I think it will require deeper pockets than I have to properly maintain. Best of luck with it....it is a BEAUTY!
