Solstice
didn't make it.Have you seen the new car from Pontiac? I really like it, not that I'm getting rid of the Mini.
Need to win the lottery so I can get another toy.

I saw it on The Apprentice last week. It looks like a combination between the Honda roadster, the Miata, and the MR2. Not a bad looking car for the price point but I would never own another American car.
Very nice car, but GM will surely launch this one with plenty of bugs to drive you nuts. GM believes that first year customers are the best guinea pigs to perform "quality control" checks.
No more GM for me or my family.

I hear they're using the same steering system as the WRX...
which alone imo is a bad choice...(?) ex-WRX owner who used a Flash3
to get the sort-of nimbleness. (full coilovers, f/r strut bars, swaybar, etc)

Yah, my dad told me about this car saying that it would be as nimble if not more nimble than the mini and miata....but when i saw it at the car show, it was obviously not going to reach that plateau. With that weight, and stance it will be a great car to drive, but i doubt very 'nimble'

I was for about 2 and a half years. Pretty cool forum....lots of drama and childish crap at times though.

it's an interesting looking car, being in Detroit, i've seen quite a few on the road with Manufacturer plates. i think the Saturn Sky (another case of GM taking an identical car and rebadging it and changing the sheetmetal a bit). the Sky reminds me a lot of a Opel/Vauxhall Speedster/VX220 but it's not mid engine
still won't get me to go back and buy american tho

Weighs too much compared to a Miata! For as being nimble - it is only 1 inch narrower than a Corvette - too wide! Hopefully they will release turbo/supercharged version shorty after initial launch which would help a lot.
I congratulate GM for building this and the upcoming Sky. IMO the Sky looks much better. Why do I have a feeling that the Opel/Vauxhall versions will be the best=coupe.
I have my doubts GM will be able to nail the finer points of a sports car - connection to the road/car, such as steering, linear throttle/brake inputs, etc.
Off topic - new Miata looks great and only weighs 22 lbs. more than the last version.

The Solstice was never supposed to be a track car, or a serious enthusists car, come on get real. It's meant to sell, to get out tot he public and stir interest in the rest of the linup. It's supposed to be big and comfortable for the majority of the US buyers. It's supposed to quick from light to light, have a high bling factor for all your buddies, and be affordable (in cheap-o get nothing stock form) for the younger crowd.
As a previous satisfied GM car owner, I would have no problem with this car. I would skip the first year and let the bugs get worked out.
GM cars have been improving thru the years. I had real bad experiences in the 80's but my last 2 corvettes were top notch and trouble free... that was 6 years worth. The Z06 especially was awesome. Great build quality and the handling, power was awesome. I'm talking about the newer vettes, C5. Previous vettes were not world class by a long shot.
I try and buy American where I can... but I had to give up on vettes because I just can't fit in them with a helmet.
I was attracted to the mini because it is so unique. I like trying different cars. The MCS will be my 35th car in 36 yyears of driving (yes, I'm old),
My point is don't count the General out. They still have the ability to make great cars. Its just taking them a long time to get them right. They are the largest automaker in the world. Been that way since 1931. You don't become the biggest by being the worst.

It's the sister car to the upcoming Saturn Sky which, IMHO, seriously trumps it in the looks department. Assuming the reports are accurate and they don't muck it up from the prototypes, I suspect the Sky will be sharing space in my garage with my MINI.
