What car if not a MINI
Trending Topics
Cars that I would consider would be a really nice Integra Type-R. I'd also like a BMW 330 with the ZHP performance package, or an old E36 M3 Sedan (4 door). I also like the Lexus IS300 with the 5 speed and torsen diff.
I autocrossed my friend's WRX STi once this summer, and that was and awesome car, too. I wouldn't mind one of those, and considering that I live in Minnesota, it wouldn't be a bad choice since summer is like 2 months long
So, the STi would probably be "my choice" considering where I live. If I lived in Sunny SoCal or something, I'd probably have a BMW at the top of my list.

Easy - somthing from Mazda. Miata, RX-8, RX-7 FD, Mazda6.
I did look at Subaru WRx's, as well as the Saab 9-2x, but both cars lacked the "fun" aspects of a Mini.
But, I think my Miata provides just as much driving enjoyment as my Mini. The two cars complement each other very, very well.

Lotus Elise

Infinity G25 or Acura TL
If I was on a limited budget-
Nissan Maxima or Altima
If I had passed up the MCS, I'd have gotten a 330Ci (well equipped and manual trans).
I have driven the Lexus IS300, G35, STi, and the C-Class Mercedes and didn't like either of them enough to buy. (I was impressed with the performance of the STi, but I just couldn't warm up to its looks and the interior feels cheap to me.)
This may be politically incorrect, but I dislike hatchbacks and I really dislike FWD. Somehow the MINI makes a hatchback desirable, and somehow MINI has built a FWD car that doesn't drive like a pig. First time I went to a MINI dealership was to humor my buddy's wife who wants one. I was expecting a "cute" car with no guts like the Beetle and PT Cruiser. I really got an education that day! We got an MA that could really put the car through its paces and she drove first. She took us on a real roller coaster ride. My MCS is now built and awaiting a boat ride.
If I had to settle for my 3rd choice, it'd have been a certified pre-owned E39 540i Sport 6 speed (the one BEFORE Bangle ruined it).
Marketing campaigns are mostly empty hype, but BMW really is the ultimate driving machine. Apparantly, they want the MINI to be as well.

The other car I considered before I bought my MINI was the Mazda RX8, but it wasn't that close as I did not test drive it. I did test drive an Acura TSX, but I did not feel it was a great driving experience, as it was too laid back, and disconected from the driving experience.
A mini. O wait. I already have one. Well, Let me think............................................. ........................... Another Mini. Lol.
Sorry. I have driven an rx8, mazda 3 and 6, acura rsx, civic si, toyota matrix, scion tc, focus svt, and a altima 2.5s, and a couple of others, and The mini still stands firm on my decision. Everything else feels, rides, and functions like crap/cheap compared to the Mini-S. The altima feels pretty well but is 2 grand more than the mini s also lacks the punch of a Mini. The 3 and 6 ride rough to me and don't have enough power, and the 3 feels cramped(even compared to the mini). The only other one that I kinda liked was the rsx - Nice power, and the shifter felt closest to the mini's but it was still small in the back. Plus the seats were really firm and didn't offer that much adjustment(5.8+ need not apply). The rx8 looked cool but was pricer than the mini and preformance was about the same. I do however like the suicide doors on the back. It still didn't have the feel of a mini and had that cheep plastic feel like Mazda made it.(Not that expensive feel of a BMW.)Plus would you want someone to say, I'm in a mazda look at me. I'm a Mini Loo Wooooooooooooooooo!!! it's a Mini check it out!!! All in all they were nice cars but none of them compaired to a Mini. But that's my opinion. I am in love with this little car.

While I too covet the Lancia Delta Integrale, I think that if I didn't have my MCS, I'd just drive up the pike a couple of miles and git me one of these brutes at the local U.S. importers, 1 G Racing:

It's the Noble M12. Supercar performance for less than supercar price.

Good old Lancia Delta HF Integrale.
This car will always have a special place in my heart for being the first car which scared me by its performanced
Otherwise, in price order, my other choices would be:
GTI, TT, Elise, New Boxster and my all time favorite (that I have driven) 360 Stradale....still hope to get one some day (who needs a 401k anyway
)
