So, how many VW converts do we have here?

Well fellas, this is my first post. I keep pretty quiet and gleen the knowledge off of the vocal croud. Something has caught my attention though. There are alot of logons that I recognize from the VW side of the house. I'm a clubB5-er. Love my passat, but I think the go-kart handling and overall fun factor sold me on the MCS. What do you think?

First, welcome to MCO!

I have a 2000 VW jetta GLS VR6 in addition to my MCS.
On VW Vortex I have gone by BoraVR6, CoolWhiteVR6, and now DenverMINI.

Well, my first car was a 1985 VW Rabbit GLS. Then I had a 1987 Scirocco 16v. Then I went to college and needed something cheap to insure, so I got a 1987 Fox GL. That was my last VW. I got a new civic for myself after graduating college. Tried to get a Golf, but they weren't dealing. That led to a few Civic SIs, and then a Miata LS, and now my dear MCS.

Hey! Welcome to MCO! I was in the market for a GTi when I discovered the MINI and knew I had to have it. My boyfriend, who loves his MK1 Rabbit GTi and his MK2 GTi AND his MK3 Jetta VR6 (whew) wanted to get a MINI very badly, but the Jetta was too good a deal to pass up and he didn't have enough $$. I am one of the few people in my group of friends that does not drive a VW.

i went from an 86 Audi Coupe GT, to a 87 VW scirocco, to a 91 VW corrado (notice a body style trend here)then thru it for a loop, and went to a 99 VW GTi, then my Cooper. the mini beats them all hands down, although my mates rabbit GTi is a blast to drive too.
cheers, jason

Yeah, I think so
I still have my '01.5 passat too. I'm not sure if I can part with the practicality. I still swear I can fit my two daughters, the stroller, and groceries in the boot!

1976 VW Bus, two-tone sour-apple green and white w/ peppier engine and seating for 9. Could the steering experience of "Das Boot" be any different from Ringo's?!

I have a 99 Passat V6 in addition to the MCS. I love them both. I sold my 95 VW Golf for the MINI.

first car, 77 Scirocco, then a 88 CRX, then a 91 Accord Wagon, then a 96 Civic EX, then a 01 Jetta WE 1.8T. every one of those cars except for the Accord, i added tons of suspension mods, all because i wanted them to handle way better. i had to convert after i test drove the MCS.

I was thinking about the new 200 hp vr6 gti or the 337, but the handling is too sloppy on the mkIV VW's. I had a long list of VW's over the last 8 years, but it was time to change. VW is too busy trying to cross over into a low end luxury car. They lost that "fun to drive" feel they started with the original rabbit gti.

I traded in a VW Jetta TDI with an Upsolute chip. I was tired of having a slow car, even with the chip 0-60 was around 10 sec. It got great MPG but the thing was not nearly a fun as the MINI (of course). I hope the MINI is higher quality than the VW too.

My first car was a baby blue '76 VW Beetle. Haven't had one since then, but I was thinking about a used GTI or Corrado when I saw my first MINI. So much for VW!

Considering the number of people from the Vortex that have already recognized me here in less than a month, I think that there are a LOT of us.

If I was VW, I would be very very nervous right now because they have NOTHING to offer people like us at all, and the new Mark 5 platform is just going to follow the same old bigger, fatter, heavier trend that has basically ruined cars like the GTI.

A convertible beetle would have been great about 3 years ago, but now it is too little too late. Even the R32 AWD super-Golf is still a bigger, heavier boat.

The only thing they could possibly offer me now is an Audi S3 Quatto, but that is highly unlikely, but maybe more likely than ever with the need for something they can offer to off-set the lagging Golf, Jetta, and NB sales they are sure to experience.

One thing I can say that is good about VW is that I really did have a terriffic salesman. He even took me to the local road track and taught me to drive as he used to be an instructor for some high performance driving school. . .

Adolf Zuch at Ed Carrol Motors in Fort Collins, CO, thanks for the great times and sorry that I''m not going to buy that Audi TT afterall. . . . .

On September 20th, my '98 New Beetle GLS 2.0L magically became a Mini Cooper when I pulled up to this place with a biiiig sign that said "Classic MINI"... the rest was a blur...

I sold a 2001 Jetta 1.8T.

I had the transmission on the Jetta go at 6,000 miles (nly had 6,500 miles when I sold the car). I started reading about all kinds of horror stories about mechanical failures, so................. the rest is history.I was going to wait to trade it in on the Mini in January, but with used car prices falling like a rock, went ahead and sold it in anticipation of the Mini's arrival.

Still have a 2000 GTI 1.8T along with the MCS. I like them both, but the Mini is much more fun for "spirited" driving.

Sold my '66 VW Deluxe Microbus a few months ago

The $800 is part of my down payment on the DS/W MCS due to dock tommorro in Jersy

Asked the guy I sold it to if he was going to fix it up and sell it

His response "I'm going to be buried in it"

Back in '86 I thought the same thing

Guess I'm going the other way now

I drove a civic hatchback, and until I discovered the MINI, I was looking at either a VW Jetta or a GTI.

Traded in my 1998 GTI for the MINI... Best decision I ever made.
And the hardest 5 months waiting for Winnie to arrive!
